Coach Jayne announced last week that his $1K Widowmaker tournament would take place this Saturday, August 18th. In just one innocuous tweet, Jayne gathered a surprisingly large buzz surrounding the event considering it's relatively low prize pool and non-standard competitive format.
Nevertheless, the demand for non-traditional Overwatch tournaments is at an all-time high now that Overwatch League Season 1 has ended alongside the most popular regions Contenders seasons. All that is left to sate Overwatch fans is the World Cup group stages in Korea and the All-Star matches to be held next week at Blizzard Arena LA.
So why not embrace the flick shot and watch a competitive Widowmaker tournament in the meantime? We spoke to Jayne about the tournament details and structure he was able to provide full details on how the 1v1 tournament will take place.
The tournament is this Saturday (8/18/2018) at Noon PDT/3:00pm EDT.

There will be three rounds of play in this tournament:

The score to win during the Finals will be reduced from 50 to 10.

Miscellaneous:
● Players will be seeded in Preliminaries, with OWL players ranked as T1, OW Contenders as T2, and noteworthy players and/or streamers as T3.
● Signups will close at 10:00am PDT/1:00pm EDT, two hours before the tournament begins.
● Those who wish to participate who are not T1/T2/T3 players can still sign-up, if they are able to provide a recommendation from a T1/T2/T3 player and proof of Widowmaker time and skill.
● Kabaji, Calvin, and Ajax will be in attendance.
● If successful, Jayne is planning another tournament on Sept. 29th (after Group Stages) for NA, KR and EU regions.
Considering the nature of the tournament, only elite class Widowmaker players will stand a chance. However, with the recommendation of a pro player, anyone is free to message Jayne via Twitter for an invite. It's an unusually practical way to go about signing up for a tournament, but that is all part of its grassroots charm.
Whether you are a Widowmaker diehard or just someone that loves competitive Overwatch, the chance of this tournament providing no entertainment is practically zero, so tune in August 18th to twitch.tv/jayne at Noon PDT/3:00pm EDT!
