On July 13th (KST), Griffin (GRF) defeated Gen.G (GEN) on match 1. On match 2, Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) advanced to 3rd place by winning against SKT T1 (SKT).
The current 1st place team, GRF and the last year’s Worlds champion, GEN both put up quite a fight; it was indeed one of the most competitive and fierce matches of the Summer split. With GRF winning game 1 and GEN winning game 2, the two teams proceeded to the third game.
Game 3 was rather one-sided. With GRF going with some aggressive, early-game picks, they constantly snowballed throughout the game. Although the process was rather slow, eventually they destroyed the bottom / mid inhibitors near the 30-minute mark. After recalling, GRF soon gathered near GEN’s Nexus and easily closed down the game.
Match 2 was another competitive matchup. SKT T1, who are currently struggling to escape from 7th place, was on the advantage by winning game 1. However, HLE won the second game with Lava showing exceptional performance on his Talon. With Talon becoming a clear threat for SKT's main dealers, Sangyoon's Ezreal eventually hit his power spikes.
On game 3, SKT chose some aggressive bruisers in their pick. SKT did make a fresh start by succeeding a top gank. However, HLE recovered right away by succeeding a top gank and then destroying the first turret. Once HLE's champions hit their power spikes, it was hard to chase them down since most of SKT's champions lacked mobility compared to HLE's side. HLE managed to quickly snowball throughout the game and closed down the match.
