Capcom grew its net sales by 49% year on year to ¥121bn in the six months to September 30th, helped by Onimusha: Way of the Sword passing 1.7 million units worldwide.
According to a release published on October 27th, the Japanese publisher's operating profit rose 54.5% to ¥60.8bn over the same period. Ordinary profit climbed 67.5% to ¥61.2bn, while profit attributable to owners of the parent company reached ¥43.1bn, up 56.6%. Basic earnings per share came in at ¥103, against ¥65.78 a year earlier.
Onimusha and Resident Evil drive game sales
Capcom's Digital Contents business, which covers its console and PC games, sold 36.86 million units in the half, up from 23.85 million a year earlier. Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the first new entry in the series in 20 years, was part of that total. According to the release, it won two awards at a game show and has now sold more than 1.7 million units.
Older games also played a part. The release said the latest Resident Evil game kept winning over a broad, global audience, and sales of earlier entries in the series rose steadily thanks to "pricing initiatives."
Arcades, pachislo and film
Outside games, Capcom pointed to the efficient running of its existing arcades and new store formats in its Arcade Operations business, plus sales of a new smart pachislo machine in Amusement Equipments. Pachislo are Japanese slot-style gaming machines. The company also listed the live-action Street Fighter movie, released worldwide on October 16th, along with global esports tournaments, merchandise and events, as ways it built up its brands.
Capcom kept its forecast for the year ending March 31st 2027 unchanged from May 13th. It expects net sales of ¥210bn, operating profit of ¥83bn and profit attributable to owners of the parent of ¥58bn. According to the release, the company is on track to hit those targets. Capcom only publishes full-year forecasts, as it manages its performance on an annual basis.
