The Call of Duty franchise has made more than $40bn in lifetime revenue, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has said.

Sharma shared the milestone on X (formerly Twitter) on October 26th, a few days after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 went live. "One of the most celebrated Call of Duty games in its 24-year history, and now $40B in lifetime franchise revenue. An incredible milestone. Congrats to the Activision team," she wrote. "And to the players, thank you for being with us."

The post came with a graphic of review scores for Modern Warfare 4. Sharma did not give a breakdown of the figure, say over what period it was earned, or say how much of it came from the new game.

How Modern Warfare 4 has started

Modern Warfare 4 went live on October 23rd, a week after Campaign Early Access opened on October 16th. The game is split into a story campaign, multiplayer and the DMZ mode, and it is out on PlayStation 5 and PC, among other platforms.

On October 26th, the official Call of Duty account said the team was "humbled by the recognition", pointing to Metacritic scores of 89 on PlayStation and 86 on PC. Activision has also been adding to the game since launch. It has said that DMA detection, a method of catching hardware-based cheats, is now part of its RICOCHET Anti-Cheat toolset, and PC players need TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot switched on to play online.

More content is already on the way. The Call of Duty account has teased that the Shipment map arrives in Modern Warfare 4 on October 27th.

Sharma, who leads Xbox, announced a company-wide restructure in July under the name 'Resetting XBOX'. Activision, the publisher behind Call of Duty, is part of Xbox.
