Mintrocket has revealed the final downloadable content (DLC) for DAVE THE DIVER, a free Subnautica 2 Content Pack set to launch in early 2027.

According to a release, the expansion was made with help from Unknown Worlds Entertainment, the studio behind the Subnautica series. It will take players to Proteus, an ocean moon full of new creatures and resources to find. Mintrocket also released an announcement trailer for the pack.

In the DLC, Dave and Bancho, two of the game’s characters, will travel between dimensions to unlock new recipes and help out new friends. Players will also face occasional run-ins with the Leviathan, which the release called Subnautica 2’s ‘signature creature’. Mintrocket has billed the pack as ‘fully immersive’.

“For our final DLC expansion, we wanted to create something that felt especially meaningful, and a Subnautica collaboration is what players have been asking us about for a long time,” said Jaeho Hwang, Studio Director at Mintrocket. Hwang added that although both games are set underwater, Subnautica has “such a distinct approach to underwater exploration,” which gave the team a chance to try something new with DAVE THE DIVER. He said the studio hopes the collaboration gives players “one more fresh and surprising adventure with Dave and his friends, old and new.”

Unknown Worlds also commented on the crossover. Anthony Gallegos, Creative Director of Subnautica 2, said: “We’re so excited to collaborate with the team at Mintrocket. It’s clear that we both adore one another’s games a lot, and the expansion is a love letter to both Dave the Diver and the Subnautica universe. People are in for a treat.”

The Subnautica 2 Content Pack can now be wishlisted on Steam, Epic Games and Xbox. Mintrocket has not yet shared an exact release date, and further updates will be posted on its X (formerly Twitter) account and Discord server.

What is DAVE THE DIVER?

DAVE THE DIVER is a single-player adventure role-playing game (RPG) that mixes deep-sea exploration with restaurant management. By day, players dive into the Blue Hole, a mysterious stretch of ocean that changes over time, to catch fish and other sea creatures with harpoons and other weapons. By night, they run a sushi restaurant, using the money they earn and the resources they gather to upgrade their equipment.

Dives also have rogue-like elements, a term for games where mistakes can cost players their progress (here, running out of oxygen means leaving behind everything collected on that dive). According to the release, the game features over 200 kinds of sea creatures, along with side quests, minigames and a story packed with in-jokes and spoofs. Mintrocket described it as an ‘award-winning’ mix of adventure, RPG and management.

Mintrocket and Unknown Worlds

Mintrocket is a game studio based in South Korea, best known for DAVE THE DIVER, which it described as a ‘hybrid marine adventure with a sushi twist’. The Subnautica 2 Content Pack will close out the game’s run of DLC.

Unknown Worlds is a game developer best known for the Subnautica series, which the studio said has sold over 18.5m units worldwide. It has also made the Natural Selection franchise and Moonbreaker, a turn-based strategy game.
