Marvel Contest of Champions adds Ghost Rider and opens Summoner's Choice vote

Add us on

Kabam has revealed that Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes) and Colossus (Age of Apocalypse) will join Marvel Contest of Champions (MCoC) this month, as the game's seventh Summoner's Choice fan vote gets under way.

MCoC is a fighting game in which players collect Marvel heroes and villains, known in-game as Champions, and its roster now sits at over 350 characters. According to a release, Colossus (Age of Apocalypse) will be available from October 15th, while Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes) follows on October 29th. Kabam, a Vancouver-based games developer, confirmed that Colossus is the 2026 Summoner's Choice Champion, picked by players through a fan vote.

Both characters bring their comic book backstories with them. Colossus is an alternate version of Piotr Rasputin from the Age of Apocalypse universe, a former Soviet super soldier who now fights as a mutant rebel and can no longer return to human form after being badly wounded in battle. Robbie Reyes is a young mechanic from East Los Angeles who became Ghost Rider when a tragedy bound him to the spirit of his late uncle, Eli Morrow.

The pair will also appear in Closer to the Edge, an event quest running from October 7th to November 4th. In the story, Doctor Strange and Spider-Man 2099 return after months away to warn the Summoner (the player's character) that the Battlerealm, the game's main setting, is splitting apart. Ghost Rider and Colossus are dragged into the chaos after a call for help.

Summoner's Choice vote features eight Spider-Verse characters

Summoner's Choice is an annual vote that lets players decide which character Kabam adds to the game next. This year's shortlist is made up of eight Spider-Man variants from across the multiverse, with the winner set to arrive in 2027. Players need to reach level six before they can vote, and the first round features the following Champions:

  • Doppelganger, a monster from another dimension built to copy and replace Earth's heroes
  • Spiders-Man, a hive mind of radioactive spiders that believe they are Peter Parker
  • Araña, an acrobatic wall-crawler who fights with a spider-bola
  • Webslinger, a hero feared by the same townsfolk he protects with his web-shooters
  • Cyborg Spider-Man, a Spider-Man kept alive with cybernetic upgrades after a near-fatal fight
  • Rek-Rap, a superfan who is a combination of demon, symbiote and t-shirt
  • Spider-Byte, a hacker who tackles cybercrime across the internet
  • Spider-Ma'am, a May Parker from Earth 3123 who gained powers from a radioactive spider bite

Votes are cast using Voting Selectors, each worth five votes for any Champion still in the running. Players can earn three per round by completing a chain of Solo Objectives, which ask them to win five fights in any game mode, and three more by claiming free daily bundles from the Webstore. According to the release, each bundle also contains a two-star Champion from previous Summoner's Choice winners.

Each round opens with an in-game message listing the Champions on the ballot, and the top four from round one will go through to round two. The voting schedule is as follows:

  • Round one: October 9th to 12th, closing at 11 AM PT
  • Round two: October 16th to 19th, closing at 11 AM PT
  • Final round: October 23rd to 26th, closing at 11 AM PT

The winner will be revealed on November 2nd during MCoC's livestream on Kabam's official Twitch channel. Further details on the format can be found on the official Summoner's Choice 2027 page.

New players can claim 10 free Champions

Kabam is also running a Graveyard Shift giveaway for new players, offering a starter bundle of 10 free horror-themed Champions. The developer described the lineup as featuring 'terrifying threats'. To qualify, players must create a new account between September 30th at 5 PM PT and November 3rd at 4:59 PM PT, and the bundle includes:

  • Kushala
  • Cosmic Ghost Rider
  • Wiccan
  • Hulk Immortal
  • Abomination Immortal
  • Black Widow (Claire Voyant)
  • Mister Sinister
  • Morningstar
  • Venompool
  • Scream

More October content for MCoC

On October 14th, Epilogue Part 4: Last Struggle will conclude a questline in which players rebuild a seven-star version of Carina Tivan. The final chapter pits players against Doom and the Chronoserpent, with Carina joining the player's roster once it is completed.

The Symbiote Generals side quest also begins that day and runs until November 4th. It centres on the Summoned Symbiote, a recurring companion character, who gains temporary buffs as players complete paths so he can take on the Generals serving Knull, a symbiote villain, and eventually Knull himself. Other additions, including the Venom the Duck Saga Chase and the Recruit Ruckus event, are covered in the game's latest release notes.

Ultimate Doom Sweepstakes continues

The 2026 Ultimate Doom Sweepstakes, which opened on September 16th, remains live until December 9th at 5 PM PT. Its grand prize is a trip for two to the world premiere of Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday in Los Angeles. Four other winners will each receive two tickets to an Avengers: Doomsday fan event at the El Capitan Theatre, also in Los Angeles.

Other prizes include Apple and Google Play gift cards, mobile devices and in-game rewards such as Champions and units. According to the release, there are 3,991 prizes in total, with a combined approximate retail value of $23,300 (~€20,000). Both the grand prize and the fan event tickets require travel to Los Angeles, and entries for them close earlier, on November 1st at 4:59 PM PT.

To enter, players log in with a Kabam ID and redeem Ultimate Doom Raffle Tickets in-game, while anyone hoping to win a physical prize must also complete the online entry form. No purchase is necessary, and buying items does not improve a player's odds. In the US, entry is limited to adults living in 48 states (all except New York and Florida) and Washington D.C., and prize eligibility varies by region.
