On October 1, Nexon released Episode 1 of 'Overgeared: Overtalk', a video introducing the key systems of its new MMORPG 'Overgeared'. In the video, author Lee Jong-bum, Producer Choi Byung-chun of Gray Games, and Director Yun Sun-jun appeared to explain gear acquisition, usage, and progression structures.
'Overgeared' adopts a structure where equipment acquired through various channels can be continuously used or modified to suit player styles. Related systems are connected so that gear acquisition and enhancement directly lead to character growth, reflecting the equipment and crafting elements that played a prominent role in the original work.
■ Diverse Gear Acquisition Paths and 'Corrupted Beings'
In-game equipment is not designed to be obtained solely from specific bosses or content. The development team explained that in some MMORPGs, specific factions control boss monsters, or opportunities to acquire gear are restricted depending on character progression stages. In 'Overgeared', while maintaining the rarity of high-grade equipment, plans are in place to offer multiple acquisition paths so that gear drops are not concentrated on specific content.
One of the acquisition paths revealed in the video is the field elite monster 'Corrupted Being'. 'Corrupted Beings' spawn randomly in the open field, and players can defeat them solo or cooperate with nearby players to take them down. Defeating them allows players to obtain gear. The developers stated that other paths for acquiring gear through game systems will also be provided, though detailed methods and item drop rates were not disclosed.
■ Submitting Unused Gear to the 'Royal Armory'
Equipment that becomes unused during gameplay can be turned in to the 'Royal Armory'. Instead of discarding or dismantling old gear after obtaining new equipment, players can submit it to the Royal Armory. Turning in equipment rewards players with 'Overgeared Coins', a major in-game currency.
Submitting enhanced equipment yields a larger amount of currency than unenhanced gear. As a result, equipment and enhancement-related items accumulated during play can be utilized in the gear submission process. However, the specific payout amounts of Overgeared Coins per item and the detailed uses for the currency were not revealed in this video.
■ 'Weapon Modification' for Customizing Appearance and Combat Performance
'Weapon Modification' is a system that allows players to customize the appearance and performance of acquired weapons to fit their playstyle. In the game, equipped weapons are visible on the character, and players can alter components such as the blade, handle, and keyrings. Even weapons of the same type can take on distinct forms depending on the chosen configuration.
Combat performance also varies based on the direction of modification. Players who prefer dealing high burst damage in a single hit can enhance maximum damage and critical hit stats. PvP-focused players can strengthen stun or bind effects, while those who favor stable combat can increase accuracy and other stability-related stats. 'Signature Equipment' is a system where the creator's name is displayed on high-grade equipment upon crafting. Other players can check the creator's identity through the gear's information panel. This system reflects the lore of the original work, where the protagonist 'Grid' built his reputation as a blacksmith through the equipment he forged. Signature Equipment displays the creator's information and benefits from a safe enhancement limit that is two stages higher than regular gear. This does not mean the item is automatically enhanced by two levels upon crafting, but rather that the range for safe enhancement is extended by two stages beyond the default threshold.
