Team Liquid has announced that Team Gullit, its championship-winning EA FC team, will now compete under the name Liquid FC.
According to a release, the change brings the team's public name in line with the identity it already uses in-game and at competitive events. EA FC is Electronic Arts' football video game series, and Team Liquid, a Dutch esports organisation founded in Utrecht in 2000, acquired Team Gullit in May 2025.
Since then, the team has operated under two names. Its website and social channels kept the Team Gullit branding, while its players wore the Team Liquid crest and kit in matches and at events such as the Esports World Cup. The Liquid FC name replaces both.
According to the release, the team won two World Championships and two eChampions League titles under the Team Gullit name, part of a total of over 18 international trophies. Team Liquid also said the team has built a following of over 1.6m across its platforms and brings in 'hundreds of millions of views' each year.
"Team Gullit has been the best in the world at what they do for years, and ever since joining our organization, they've been doing it wearing our colors," said Victor Goossens, Founder and Co-CEO of Team Liquid. "None of that would exist without Ruud Gullit, who put his name behind these players, and Hypersolid, who believed in them from day one."
Goossens added: "This rebranding formally unites the team under one banner, so that wherever our fans are, they'll now find one name and one crest to rally behind." The original name came from Ruud Gullit, described in the release as 'one of football's most iconic figures'. Team Liquid said that history will stay part of the team's identity after the switch.
Fans can expect the same tutorials and guides they already follow, now published under the Liquid FC name with a refreshed look across its channels. The roster of Manuel Bachoore, Emre Yilmaz and Paulo Neto will make its debut as Liquid FC at the FC Pro Open in London.
Where Liquid FC fits in Team Liquid
Team Liquid now considers Liquid FC its flagship EA FC team. It sits alongside the organisation's rosters in titles including League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2. The organisation is led by Goossens and Co-CEO Steve Arhancet. According to the release, it has over 90 athletes on its books and has won more than $56m in prize money from over 7,000 tournaments.
The Team Gullit deal followed a period of expansion for Team Liquid. In 2024, it bought AURA Esports in Indonesia and ECHO Esports in the Philippines, giving it a presence in Southeast Asia. Esports ownership group aXiomatic has held a controlling interest in Team Liquid since September 2016. Its investors include NBA legends Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson.
