'Football Manager 27 (FM27)', the flagship football management simulation title, will launch worldwide on November 10. The latest installment overhauls overall match day presentation, including a time-of-day system where the position of the sun shifts across the 90 minutes of match play.
Sports Interactive (SI) confirmed the release date for FM27 via its official website on September 30 and released a deep dive video covering the match day experience.
The core focus of the deep dive video is an atmosphere closer to a real-world stadium. The development team ensured crowd excitement follows the action on the pitch, from the pre-kickoff atmosphere to moments like a late equalizer just before the final whistle. Crowd models and atmosphere types have been expanded, reflecting differences based on region and climate. From clothing alone, a winter match in Europe looks visibly different from a warm day match in Japan. Supporters wearing team kits matching the players appear, while big fixtures like cup finals and derbies feature an increased number of fans waving flags.
Stadiums have also been renewed. Modern stadium designs built between 1990 and 2010 have been added, alongside improvements to textures, shading, and color rendering. The newly introduced time-of-day system alters the sun's position as the match progresses, causing shadows on the stadium, surrounding environment, and player bodies to move dynamically. The depiction of the environment also varies depending on the time of year in the season.
Changes have also been made to pitch conditions. New pitch types feature 3D grass, and thanks to VFX system improvements, pitch surfaces appear visibly wet when it rains. On snowy days, players must compete on pitch surfaces covered in accumulated snow.
Pre-match cutscenes have been updated to allow multiple camera angles per shot. According to the developers, a five-shot cutscene with three available angles can play out in over 200 different combinations. This change is particularly noticeable in Premier League and UEFA competitions, where different shot combinations appear during pre-match build-ups and trophy presentations.
Player models feature enhanced muscle definition for a more athletic build. Hair moves naturally during sprints, with the change being most prominent in women's football. Realistic hair physics are also applied to short-haired managers.
This deep dive serves as a follow-up to the previously revealed UI changes. On the 25th of last month, SI detailed the new screen layouts that will be included in FM27. News feeds are tailored to each stage of the season—such as club previews, mid-season reviews, and late-season title races—while rumors surrounding manager dismissals within the same league increase during periods when sackings traditionally spike in real life.
Club, competition, news, and nation screens have been redesigned throughout the game. The club screen allows players to instantly check the manager, top scorer, and key performers via the header bar. The competition hub screen was also showcased, offering an at-a-glance view of the status of leagues and tournaments included in the save.
Navigation and game flow have also changed. The destination screen varies each time the Continue button is pressed, and players can select their preferred play experience during the game setup stage. In addition, cup draws have returned, and agent offers related to transfer deadline day are now displayed on the recruitment screen throughout the transfer window rather than solely on deadline day itself. As the deadline approaches, the volume of offers increases.
Meanwhile, FM27 will launch simultaneously on PC, PS5, Xbox, and mobile via Netflix on November 10, with wishlisting having opened alongside the release date announcement. Details on additional platforms will be confirmed at a later date.
A Launch Preview version is scheduled to go live one to two weeks prior to the official release. Further details regarding the preview, digital pre-purchases, and discount incentives will be announced later. FM27 is the second entry in the series following its transition to the Unity engine, with SI stating that more feature reveals are still to come.
