Konami Digital Entertainment has marked Castlevania's 40th anniversary by making the original game free on mobile for a limited time and cutting prices on several series collections by up to 80%. According to a release, the first Castlevania can be downloaded at no cost on the App Store and Google Play until October 24th. The Japanese video game publisher also confirmed a series of live orchestra concerts for 2027, as well as the release of an official soundtrack on streaming platforms.
The original game, which first launched on Nintendo's Famicom console, follows vampire hunter Simon Belmont as he fights his way through Dracula's castle. Konami said fans can once again experience the gothic horror, difficult action and music that it claims have 'captivated generations'.
The publisher also shared a Castlevania 40th anniversary trailer alongside the announcement.
Castlevania anniversary sale on PlayStation and Steam
Series titles are discounted on PlayStation and Steam, with Castlevania Anniversary Collection receiving the biggest price cut on both.
PlayStation (September 23rd to October 7th):

Orchestra concerts and soundtrack release
The Castlevania 40th Anniversary Orchestra Concert will see the series' music performed live in Tokyo, Los Angeles and London in spring 2027. Konami has not yet revealed exact dates, saying these will be announced later.
Fans who would rather listen at home can stream the music of Castlevania Black & Red, which has been available on select streaming platforms since September 26th.
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse release date
The anniversary comes a few weeks before the series' next game arrives. Castlevania: Belmont's Curse launches on October 15th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam and Nintendo Switch. The game is set in Paris in 1499, 23 years after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. Konami said the story also follows on from the recent animated show.
Players take control of Rose Belmont, daughter of Trevor Belmont (the hero who defeated Dracula in Castlevania III). Armed with the family's holy whip, the Vampire Killer, and a range of other weapons and skills, she fights monsters through the burning streets of Paris and Dracula's castle.
