Nexon will launch 'Frozen Trail,' the largest update of the year for its PvPvE extraction adventure game ARC Raiders, on October 8. The update introduces a new map and three new ARCs, while an 8-day 'PvE Matchmaking' test will also be held from October 13 to 20.
Developed by Embark Studios, ARC Raiders revealed major content including new areas, weapons, and gear ahead of the update via a 'First Look' video. This update features new exploration and combat, alongside progression content and weapon customization.
The new map, 'Pendola Pass,' is a snowy region beyond the northern mountain range of the 'Rust Belt'. Featuring an old Italian village and a transit hub for the 'Exodus Project,' the terrain combines open spaces, tight corridors, and significant verticality.
The map contains the remains of a fallen giant ARC, the 'Emperor,' while a severe cold wave known as 'Flash Freeze' occurs during exploration. Inside the large vessel 'Frigate,' players can engage in high-difficulty content by solving puzzles and breaking through enemies to earn high-value loot.
Three new ARCs with distinct traits—'Bully,' 'Skulker,' and 'Hydra'—will also be added. Additionally, the 'Outpost,' a base that expands Raider progression and customization, and the 'Research Station,' which supports higher-tier weapon modifications, will be introduced.
Along with these, gameplay items such as two new weapons, a new mobility tool called the 'Grappling Hook,' an in-game 'Camera' for taking photos, and new musical instruments are being added. Various improvements, including a 'Skill Tree' revamp, are also scheduled.
Nexon and Embark Studios will temporarily run 'PvE Matchmaking' with restricted player-versus-player combat from October 13 to 20. Players can choose between the existing PvPvE format and PvE matchmaking, with PvE allowing them to focus on fighting ARCs, exploring, and co-op play. Both companies plan to collect play data and user feedback during the test to evaluate a potential official implementation.
