Supergiant Games marks Hades II anniversary with documentary and new releases

Add us on

Supergiant Games has teamed up with Noclip on a multi-part documentary about the making of Hades II, one of several announcements marking a year since the game's full release.

The studio, which has been making games since 2009, shared the news in a blog post on September 25th. Hades II launched in its v1.0 form a year ago, after more than a year in Early Access, where players could buy and play the game while it was still being developed.

"To everyone who aided Princess Melinoë on her fateful task, thank you so much!" the studio wrote, referring to the game's lead character. The post also included new anniversary artwork from Supergiant's in-house illustrator, Jeremy Anninos.

Noclip returns with Developing Hell II

Noclip, which produces video documentaries on how games are made, previously covered the original Hades in its Developing Hell series. The new series, titled Developing Hell II, will follow the development of Hades II, which Supergiant described as its team's 'biggest project to date'.

"Noclip previously documented the making of the original game in the Developing Hell series, so we figured a sequel series fit the theme!" Supergiant said.

A short preview of the series has been released. Fans who support Noclip on Patreon will be able to watch each episode first.

Concert video and album on the way

In June, Supergiant held a one-off live orchestral concert at London's Royal Festival Hall. Titled Ballads of the Underworld, the sold-out show featured music from both Hades games, along with other pieces.

A video of the full concert is now available to watch. The studio also said it plans to release a Ballads of the Underworld album, which fans will be able to buy or stream for free on the platforms that already carry its music.

Alongside the video, Supergiant released a new Princess of the Underworld T-shirt through merchandise retailer Fangamer. The design shows Melinoë holding Lim and Oros, the sister blades she wields in the game.

Five years in the making

According to the announcement, Hades II was Supergiant's first sequel and took around five years to create. The studio claimed that, after its v1.0 launch, the game went on to become the best-reviewed title of 2025.

Supergiant said that success means its team can stay together and keep making games, which it described as its main goal since it was founded.

"Thank you for sticking with us, and may moonlight guide you out there!" the studio wrote.
