Gyeong-ho “Luna” Jang, LW Blue’s support player, spoke out that he has been released from the team.
Luna has played for Winners and Samsung Galaxy as a pro League of Legends player and switched to Overwatch last year to become one of the highest skilled talents, evidenced by his nomination for 2016 Overwatch World Cup as a Korea representative.
Though he continued to bring good showings as the team’s support in APEX Season 3, fans hypothesized whether he was in a slump when he did not play in the quarterfinals against Lunatic-Hai. Fortunately, Luna took to his social media to debunk the rumors around his supposed slump, which got more fans to eagerly look for him in Season 4.
On August 8th (KST) when APEX Season 4 profile shooting was set to take place, the news of Luna’s release was made public in the former LW member, Jin-woo “Gambler” Heo’s livestream. In the broadcast, Luna indicated that LW’s release was an immediate notice that did not take into account the player’s intentions. Since the release happened on the deadline for the Season 4 roster submission, he won't be able to participate in this season of APEX.
Regarding the departure, Luna made a post on Facebook saying, “I feel wronged and so frustrated.” He expressed his resentment by explaining, “I don’t care if they release me but isn’t it too much to break the news overnight without telling me anything beforehand?”
In addition to Luna, the release of LW Red’s support, Jae Hyeong “Who” Park was also revealed in the stream, sparking heated discussions about the organization’s handling of these issues.
Meanwhile, LW tweeted that it will make an official statement concerning the team’s stance tomorrow, August 10th local time.
[Update] In a phone call with Inven, Luna relayed to us that this move was done solely on the head coach’s discretion and added, “It is my understanding that a coach advised the head coach to give at least one-month notice prior to actual release, but the team was delaying in giving me notice and I was abruptly let go yesterday.”
