Bungie has issued an apology regarding the studio's current situation and announced a reform plan for the future operation of its titles.
On September 22, Bungie released a video titled 'The Next Chapter for Bungie' on its official YouTube channel. In the five-minute video, Bungie's new Studio Head Poria Torkan and Marathon General Manager Josh Deane appeared to express reflection, stating, "Over the last few years, we lost sight of our top priority—the players—and as a result, we lost player trust and incredible colleagues." Beyond apologizing, they signaled a major course correction for the studio's two core franchises, pledging to improve game quality and regain trust through open communication.

First, regarding Destiny 2, content updates were originally scheduled to end with 'Monuments of Triumph', but backed by continued player interest, Bungie declared that it will bring back previously vaulted content. As a result, campaigns, destinations, and raids that were removed in the past will all return. However, they noted that the actual updates will take some time, as the work must be adapted to fit the engine environment updated following the 'Beyond Light' expansion.

As for Marathon, the plan is to expand the game into a deeper extraction shooter where players can enjoy cooperative PvE, competitive PvP, and PvPvE depending on their preferences. Bungie emphasized that it does not want Marathon to become an exclusive club, but rather wants everyone to have an enjoyable experience regardless of playstyle or skill level. The changes for this will be showcased in the upcoming Nightfall Refresh update in October and the Symbiosis update in December, with specific details to be revealed at a later date.
Finally, Poria and Josh added, "We realized the importance of increasing transparency around development priorities and maintaining consistent communication when plans change. We will prove our improvement through actions and results, not just words."
Meanwhile, Bungie, which announced its plan for reform, previously launched its new title 'Marathon' in March. However, it suffered from sluggish performance due to shortcomings in early live service operations, leading to restructuring in June following the poor results. Many players are now keenly watching to see what changes this new commitment will bring.
