On September 19, the Tokyo Game Show Organizing Committee announced that due to the approach of Typhoon No. 25, the TGS 2026 event scheduled for Monday, September 21 (a Japanese public holiday) has been canceled entirely. This decision comes after a comprehensive review of the latest weather forecasts and the anticipated impact on public transportation.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, TGS 2026 was originally scheduled to take place from September 17 to 21 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Notably, the organizers had extended the event's duration to run for five days for the first time in its history, promoting it under the slogan "The Longest Ever, 5 DAYS Filled with Games." The schedule consisted of Business Days on September 17 and 18, followed by three Public Days from September 19 to 21.
The cancellation of the final day's event is due to Typhoon No. 25, "Dujuan," a large typhoon moving north toward Japan. According to Japanese weather reports, Typhoon No. 25 is likely to approach the Izu Islands and the Kanto region on September 21, and is expected to maintain strong intensity as it approaches. Maximum instantaneous wind speeds in Kanto and the Izu Islands could reach up to 50 meters per second, which is expected to disrupt public transportation services.
In an official notice, the organizers explained that rain and wind are expected to intensify significantly after the afternoon of September 21, and public transit disruptions could create difficulties for attendees, exhibitors, and staff returning home. Consequently, prioritizing the safety and smooth departure of all participants, the decision was made to cancel the entire day's event on September 21.
The event on Sunday, September 20, will currently proceed as scheduled. However, depending on future weather conditions and circumstances around the venue, certain facility operations or content may be modified or canceled for safety reasons.
Tickets for September 21 will be fully refunded. Refund instructions will be provided separately by each ticket vendor, and details will also be announced on the official TGS website as soon as they are finalized.
