On September 16, Neowiz announced that it had signed an IP agreement with Japanese game developer Nihon Falcom for 'The Legend of Heroes III: White Witch' (hereinafter 'White Witch').
Through this agreement, Neowiz secured the rights for PC and console package development as well as global publishing for 'White Witch.' The company plans to focus development on recreating the original's story and atmosphere, leveraging the development and publishing capabilities it has accumulated in the console market.
'White Witch' is the third entry in Nihon Falcom's RPG series 'The Legend of Heroes,' originally released in 1994. It is also the first title in 'The Legend of Heroes: Gagharv Trilogy,' which ties games three through five together in a shared universe.
Known as a 'poetic RPG (詩う RPG)' for reducing combat and puzzle interventions to focus on narrative progression, the game features detailed character actions while moving across maps, NPC dialogue that changes with story progression, and direction that conveys emotion through music during pivotal scenes.
A Neowiz official said, "'White Witch' is a title that RPG fans around the world have cherished for over 30 years. We will present a polished game that reignites the emotions felt by players back then while ensuring first-time players can fully immerse themselves." They added, "We hope to build a long-term partnership with Nihon Falcom starting with this agreement."
Nihon Falcom is a Japanese game developer founded in 1981. Its major franchises include the 'Trails' series, 'Ys', 'Tokyo Xanadu', and 'Kyoto Xanadu -the Blooming Phantom-', with cumulative sales of the 'Trails' series surpassing 10 million copies.
