Overwatch's 54th hero, 'Doctrine', was revealed at BlizzCon 2026.
The hero trailer revealed at the venue opens with Doomfist, Sombra, Reaper, and Widowmaker raiding Watchpoint: Grímsvötn in Iceland. Alarms blare at the base, and watch personnel try to stop them, but they fall helplessly before overwhelming force.
Soon, as they approach the control room to break someone out, a giant surveillance robot blocks their way. At the desperate moment, Doomfist delivers a final blow to destroy the surveillance robot, and 'Doctrine' is finally freed.
Doomfist hands a piece of equipment to Doctrine, who appears as an elderly man. Equipping the device, Doctrine absorbs bat-swarm-like energy spewing from a chest they brought, soon rejuvenating into a young man. The scene evokes a vampire reclaiming youth by absorbing blood.
When Doomfist blames himself for being too late, Doctrine responds, "You're here now, that's what matters." The trailer comes to an end as the two shake hands.

The newly joining Doctrine is a Support hero and is available to play right now in Overwatch. However, he is playable only during the special hero trial period running until September 15, after which he will officially join in Season 5.
Doctrine is a Support hero that realizes the ultimate vampire fantasy envisioned by the Overwatch team, featuring the ability to freely manipulate health using a scepter, injections, and bat-like drones.
With Doctrine's arrival, the in-game story is also set to make significant progress. The current narrative takes place after Vendetta severed Doomfist's arm and defeated him. With Doctrine—who seems to have a close connection with Doomfist—now joining Doomfist, the story is expected to take a major turn.
Regarding this, the Overwatch team stated, "Talon's Reign comes to a conclusion in Season 5. For the first time in Overwatch history, a year-long narrative arc comes to an end, and following that, along with a teaser for Hero 55, we plan to reveal clues about the direction for 2027."
In addition, Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, featured in the hero trailer, will be added as a new Escort map, and reworks for Sombra and Roadhog were also teased. Through this rework, Sombra's role will change from Damage to Support.
As for Roadhog, specific details of the rework have not yet been determined, but it is expected to arrive within this year.
