Blizzard's MOBA 'Heroes of the Storm', which officially announced the cessation of updates on July 9, 2022, has signaled its revival.
Blizzard announced a new hero for 'Heroes of the Storm' today (13th) at its gaming convention, BlizzCon 2026. This comes about six years after Hogger, the game's 90th and previously last hero, was released on December 3, 2020.
Xal'atath, the new hero joining 'Heroes of the Storm', first appeared in the 'Legion' expansion of Blizzard's flagship MMORPG 'World of Warcraft'. In 'Legion', she gradually made her presence known as a Priest Artifact Weapon before establishing herself as the primary antagonist across 'Battle for Azeroth', 'Dragonflight', 'The War Within', and 'Midnight'.
The specific hero role Xal'atath will fulfill in 'Heroes of the Storm' has not yet been revealed. Detailed information regarding this is expected to be unveiled during BlizzCon 2026.
Meanwhile, during the opening ceremony, President Johanna Faries remarked as she unveiled Xal'atath, "We could feel the passion of HotS fans". She went on to tease potential future updates, adding, "Another new hero might come in the near future. Stay tuned, and we hope to see you in the Nexus".
Xal'atath will be added to the PTR server starting Monday, September 14 US local time, and is scheduled for official launch on September 29.
