The 'Akina Ghost Story Research Institute' is a mage clan disguised as 'Slash and Flesh,' the film club at Ookuma High School. Their primary activity is ghost story hunting—collecting and analyzing rumors of ghost stories wandering the city to uncover their true nature—and they have established their hideout in Shinjuku Ward.

The director, 'Akitsu Akina,' is a mage who uses magic items created through her proprietary technology combining alchemy and chemistry for ghost story hunting. However, among the tools created with her proprietary technology, it is rare for her to make anything truly useful.

Clan member 'Kagamihara Haru' is a delicate and pure young lady like a flower among her friends, but in the clubroom, she is a dual-life mage who lounges on the couch enjoying B-grade slasher films. Her favorite is a niche series called 'Shinjuku Cleaver Incident,' and she uses a summoned beast crafted to look like a slasher from that work.

The third member, 'Asakura Mai,' is the track and field team's ace targeting Inter-High. Though originally a mage, she is pouring more of her heart and effort into her track activities, having resolved to live as an ordinary civilian rather than as a mage. Although she has a quiet and blunt image that makes her seem difficult to approach, she is an ordinary girl who loves cute plushies. At times, she displays a strange lack of common sense, such as attending class or walking around busy downtown areas in her tracksuit.
