Traditional MMORPG 'Red Stone', developed by L&K Logic Korea (CEO Nam Taek-won, hereinafter 'L&K'), marks its 23rd anniversary of Korean service this year since launching open beta testing in 2003.
Among 1.5-generation games that began service in the early 2000s, games other than Red Stone still maintain live service today. In the gaming market, when dissatisfaction with service quality or content arises, players frequently move to other games. Red Stone enjoyed strong popularity during its initial open beta and official launch in 2003 and has maintained its service for 23 years since.
In early March 2025, ahead of the game's 22nd service anniversary (Red Stone's anniversary falls on May 30 each year), L&K announced its future direction for service and development, naming the project 'R.E.L.O.A.D.' (hereinafter Project RELOAD). The name combines 'R' for Refine (improving service and operation), 'E' for Equal (balancing), 'L' for Look (visual upgrades such as graphics), 'O' for Overcoming (improving game convenience), 'A' for Advance (expanding and revamping existing content), and 'D' for Develop (adding new content and system updates).
Project RELOAD is not a short-term project that wraps up after one year, but a long-term roadmap concept for future development updates as of its announcement. Now, about 1 year and 6 months after its launch, L&K continues to mention Project RELOAD in every update notice, and also highlighted it at the recent 23rd anniversary player showcase.
This article introduces the history of Red Stone's Project RELOAD carried out over the past 1 year and 6 months, along with the concepts and roadmap for updates in the second half of 2026 and next year, which were additionally presented at the player showcase.

Current status of new content and system additions in Project RELOAD
First, let's look at the current status of new content and system additions under 'D' (Develop) in Project RELOAD.
■ Current Highest-Difficulty Content in Red Stone: 'Phase Conqueror'
'Phase Conqueror', the highest-difficulty boss raid content in Red Stone available to adventurers level 1,250 and above, began with 'Majestic Sun Hyperion' on Monday, April 28, 2025—just about 2 months after the Project RELOAD announcement. Since then, a total of 3 boss monsters and related content have been added, including 'Ershuka of Deep Silence' (updated October 2025) and 'Nuckelon Stirring the Ocean' (updated April 2026).

According to the story lore, Phase Conquerors are beings that came from another world when the demon Barbaros created interdimensional gates on the continent of Prandel. The content is structured so players defeat the followers of Phase Conquerors in Phase Fields created by the collapse of existing Mirror Fields, and then ultimately defeat the Phase Conqueror boss. The 3rd Phase Conqueror, 'Nuckelon Stirring the Ocean', is an exception to this setting.

Although the entry requirement is level 1,250, the actual required level is higher for a party of up to 4 adventurers to successfully defeat a Phase Conqueror. Each Phase Conqueror and its followers possess different elemental skills and attack patterns, requiring appropriate weapons, armor, and strategy preparation. While Red Stone features existing content such as Raid Bosses and Elite Subjugation Bosses, Phase Conquerors are designed with higher difficulty than these.

Rewards obtainable upon clearing a Phase Conqueror primarily consist of ULT equipment, the top-tier item tier from level 775 to 1,250, with additional rewards distributed based on the number of clears. Phase Conquerors are scheduled to be updated on a 6-month cycle.
■ Introduction of New Ranking System 'Assault Challenge'
Through Project RELOAD, Red Stone introduced a new ranking system called 'Assault Challenge'. Content that tests an adventurer's combat capability under restricted conditions, participation records are tallied into rankings. Rankings reset on a 1-month basis.
Introduced in the update on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Assault Challenge ranks players based on cumulative damage dealt within a 3-minute time limit upon entering solo into a dungeon featuring the boss 'Gem Golem Talos'. 'Gem Golem Talos' features defensive mechanisms against attacks and various special patterns triggered as damage taken increases.
Rankings are compiled monthly from 1st to 100th place, displaying the character name and class of adventurers who achieve those ranks (with 1st place displaying their guild name as well). Characters finishing in 1st to 10th place right before the reset receive rewards such as the 'Ultimate Assaulter Box', which grants a title effect and 'Lowest Mir's Scale' upon use.
In the update on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, Assault Challenge was moved to the 'Festival of Glory' field, which serves as a hub for accessing new content, and will link with stories and systems to be added to the 'Festival of Glory' in the future.

■ Character Stat Enhancement Systems: 'Phase Stone' and 'Blessing of Ancient Dragon'
'Phase Stone', a new-concept character stat enhancement system, was the first system introduced in Project RELOAD alongside 'Phase Conqueror' in the April 2025 update.

Completing the related quest received from NPC 'Nagi Runestone' at the Brunenstig branch of the Adventurer Association unlocks a dedicated UI, where players can use 'Catalysts' to refine stones and increase stats for each character. Starting from 'Neutral Stone', refining 10 or more stages unlocks higher-tier stones, eventually enabling 'Phase Stone' refinement, with each of the 3 stone tiers having a limit of 30 refinement stages. Stats that can be boosted via Phase Stones include Strength and Knowledge stat increases, increased damage % effects from Limit Break titles, and increased final damage. Using the 'Phlogiston' item allows players to recover refinement points.
In the December 2025 update, 4 options were added to each stage of Phase Stone, including 'Blood Record increase', 'Damage increase in PvP state', and 'Defense % increase'.

Introduced in the 'Red Stone Top-Tier Content Update' on Thursday, August 28, 2025, 'Blessing of Ancient Dragon' is a system that enhances character stats by equipping the new item 'Traces of the Ancient Dragon'. In addition to basic stat boosts, options such as enhancing various buff effects can be adjusted, and existing enhancement methods like refining, opening, and fusing can also be applied.

■ New Solo Dungeon 'Living Soul Prison'
L&K is also rolling out content updates for high-level adventurers ('A' for Advance in Project RELOAD). Introduced in the update on Wednesday, February 26—just before the announcement of Project RELOAD—'Living Soul Prison' is a solo-exclusive dungeon that adventurers in the level 1,250–1,500 range can challenge once per day. Defeating the final boss, 'Jailer of Non-Iron', awards a massive amount of EXP.

■ Expansion of Existing Mirror Field Collapse System
Prior to the announcement of Project RELOAD, Red Stone rolled out updates in 2024 such as the 'Adventurer Report' renewal, monster stat reductions, and 'Dimension Hub' expansions to support adventurers in growing up to level 1,250. The target was subsequently set to reaching level 1,500.
The 'Mirror Field Collapse System' was first introduced in the 'Growth Boost' update in December 2024, and the field collapse level cap was adjusted in the August update of Project RELOAD. As a result, content originally targeted at adventurers in the level 1,400 range was expanded to cover adventurers up to the level 1,600 range, enabling them to reach the entry level for Uposmire.
A Wave of 'Redevelopment' Sweeps Across the Continent of Prandel...
The 'L' for Look and 'O' for Overcoming encompass development work aimed at modernizing heavily aged game systems and upgrading visuals as the game enters its 23rd year of service.
■ Visual and UI/UX Improvements
The emphasis is placed on polishing Red Stone's core visual elements and enhancing the distinct personality and detail of its 2.5D graphics. Variety has been added to monotonous and repetitive graphic elements in major cities, building interior structures have been revamped, and new visual effects have been added. Complex movement paths within cities have also been streamlined.
Starting with the April 2025 update, bi-monthly regular patches have brought extensive 'reconstruction' across the continent of Prandel, continuing to renew the overall exteriors and interior layouts of key buildings (e.g., 'Augusta Cathedral') in major cities such as the 'Ancient City Brunenstig', 'Port City Strasserat', and 'Holy City Augusta'. While current active players might not feel a dramatic difference, returning players revisiting Red Stone after a long time will notice how much has changed.

UI/UX improvements are also underway. In the 3rd Phase Conqueror update, 'Nuckelon Stirring the Ocean' (April 2026), an 'Integrated Status Window' was introduced to manage various stats and attribute details in one place. The initial update applied changes to 'Basic Information' and 'Titles', while the May update added a 'Detailed Stats' feature. Detailed Stats are categorized into 5 tabs: 'Attack', 'Defense', 'Support', 'Other', and 'Companion'. Features to reorder stats and a 'Preset' function that sorts stat information based on build objectives—such as Physical/Magic or PvP—were also introduced.

Interfaces for 'Raid' and 'Subjugation' have also been revamped. Players can now check clear rewards, ranking info, and weekly clear counts, while party recruitment features have been improved. Subjugation consolidated recommended challenge levels, required adventurer counts, and restriction details into one place, while hovering over reward items now displays detailed information. Reward-related sections of the Subjugation and Raid UI were updated in August as new bosses were added to each mode.

The August update revamped the game's login screen. The existing guide system underwent its first overhaul into an 'Integrated Guide', allowing players to view in-game content and progression methods. Content lists are provided as icons within the 'Content' and 'Growth' tabs, enabling players to access features with a button click without having to travel to the designated NPC. Repeatable content displays participation counts and remaining time until reset.

■ Character Balance and Service Stability
Over the course of 23 years of service, countless character balance adjustments have taken place, and consecutive large-scale balance patches in the late 2010s improved the capabilities of many classes. Nevertheless, 'Oldies' characters that have existed since the game's earliest days—such as 'Apprentice Knight', 'Magician', and 'Werewolf'—continue to receive performance upgrade requests from many adventurers.
The statement made at the recent player showcase that 'there are no immediate plans to add new characters' can be interpreted as a commitment not to introduce new classes until existing character imbalances are addressed to some degree. The lead developer also mentioned that additional characters linked to the upcoming Main Story Part 3 could be introduced in the future, expressing a determination to complete character rebalancing in the meantime.
Regarding 'R' for Refine, L&K confirmed at the showcase that measures such as continuous server stabilization against lag and disconnections in high-density areas, as well as monitoring and crackdowns on illegal macro users, are steadily being carried out. However, it will likely take time before players tangibly experience the benefits of these improvements.
What Is the Concept for 2027 to Drive Red Stone's New Resurgence?
In 2027, Red Stone will continue exploring new directions while maintaining the tone and concept of updates implemented so far. First, Main Story Part 3 will be introduced on a grand scale to breathe new life into Red Stone's narrative and refresh the game's atmosphere. Additional information from L&K will follow in the future, and CEO (and producer) Nam Taek-won—who established the world setting and handled all storytelling for the company's previous title and signature franchise, the 'Mirror War' series—will oversee story supervision.
How the story of Prandel's inhabitants seeking the truth behind the legendary 'Red Stone'—rumored to grant immortal life or unimaginable wealth—will unfold in its next phase is sure to pique the interest of players who enjoy deep traditional fantasy narratives.

Revolutions are planned for PvP and GvG, which had taken a back seat to years of PvE content development. The development team noted that partial renewals or minor tweaks to existing systems would not address core deficiencies, signaling an expected full overhaul. Large-scale siege battles and guild battles were once considered Red Stone's core content, making this a key focus of next year's revamp.

Additionally, as balance shifts emerge between existing progression systems and new progression systems established through Project RELOAD—such as 'Phase Stone', 'Blessing of Ancient Dragon', 'Destiny Prefixes', and 'Instandard Equipment'—rebalancing work will be conducted to narrow these gaps.
The concept for Red Stone's August 2026 update was 'RE:PLAY'. Player re-engagement will likely depend on how thoroughly the roadmap following this second half of the year into next year's updates is delivered. Attention is focused on whether Red Stone, having maintained service for 23 years, can continue extending its operational run into 24 and 25 years.
