Formirai announced on the 10th that it has implemented an update adding two new Captains (characters) and three new outfits to its online riichi mahjong game 'Riichi City'. Prior to this, an offline event was held in Hongdae, Seoul, on the 5th to celebrate the release of the new version.
Through this update, new Korean Captain 'Yoo Su-eun' along with 'Usui Suzune' will join the game. Yoo Su-eun is the second Korean Captain introduced in Riichi City following Choi Hyo-rin, and is expected to provide Korean players with even more familiar entertainment.
Yoo Su-eun's voice was provided by voice actor Bang Si-woo. Bang Si-woo is well known to gamers for voicing numerous popular game characters, including Gwen in 'League of Legends', Collei in 'Genshin Impact', and Topaz in 'Honkai: Star Rail'.
Along with the release of the new Captains, recruitment for existing Korean Captain 'Choi Hyo-rin' will also be rerun. During the update period, recruitment for the new Captains 'Yoo Su-eun' and 'Usui Suzune' and the rerun recruitment for Choi Hyo-rin will take place simultaneously.
Three new outfits per character have also been added. Limited-time event outfits reflecting each character's personality will be featured, including Choi Hyo-rin's 'Full-Body Physical Examination', Yoo Su-eun SP's 'Midnight Special Checkup', and Usui Suzune's 'Wrapped Handle-With-Care Item'.
An X repost event celebrating the update will also be held. Among players who repost the event post published on the official X account, winners chosen by draw will receive an autographed signboard from voice actor Bang Si-woo, who voiced Yoo Su-eun.
To celebrate the new version launch, Riichi City held an offline event titled "Riichi City's Next Yaku/Station is Hongdae Station!" near Hongik University Station in Seoul on September 5 prior to the update.
At the site, visitors who verified their in-game screens were provided with drinks and desserts, while players who verified following the official X account, reposting designated posts, and joining the official Discord received limited-edition merchandise, including character tin badges, acrylic keyrings, and eco-bags.
In addition, cosplayers Yasal and Narittyang appeared wearing the new outfits of Korean Captains 'Yoo Su-eun' and 'Choi Hyo-rin' added in this update, hosting photo sessions with players. Visitors to the event experienced up close cosplays that brought in-game outfits to life and took commemorative photos.
A representative from Riichi City stated, "Through the Hongdae offline event, we were able to meet players in person and feel their interest and love for Riichi City. We ask for lots of interest in our newly joined Yoo Su-eun and Usui Suzune, as well as the various content introduced in this update."
This update goes live at 10:00 AM on the 10th, and related events will run from 10:00 AM on the same day until 11:59 PM on October 13.
