The second closed beta test for the 100-player tactical FPS 'WARDOGS' recorded a daily peak of 162,488 concurrent players on Steam.
According to official Steam statistics checked on the morning of September 4 (KST), the standalone test client 'WARDOGS Playtest' reached 157,113 concurrent users, ranking third overall behind 'Counter-Strike 2' and 'Dota 2'. The 162,488 figure was the peak concurrent player count for the day displayed on the same page.
The first closed beta held in August also surpassed 100,000 peak concurrent players on Steam. The second test broke the previous record starting from its very first day. The target of Steam's player count tracking is a separate client used for the pre-release closed test.
BULKHEAD described this CBT as a test to check large-scale connection environments, including server scaling, server browsing, login queues, and voice chat. Pre-order customers are guaranteed entry, while a limited number of applicants via Steam Playtest receive sequential invitations.
Developed by BULKHEAD and published by Team17 Digital, 'WARDOGS' is a tactical FPS where up to 100 players are split into three teams to fight for control of zones. It features infantry combat, vehicular warfare, and outpost construction across destructible battlefields. Early Access on Steam is scheduled to begin on the 10th.
