Sony revealed a wide array of new titles during a two-hour double feature in its online showcase State of Play.

The showcase unfolded back-to-back with "State of Play"—packed with updates and new announcements from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners—followed by "State of Play Japan," which delivered in-depth looks at new titles from Japanese and Asian game studios.

Highlights included the reveal of Crimson Desert's expansion, Charting the Unknown, and LEGO PlayStation, along with several titles announcing their release dates for the first time.

■ Resident Evil: Night Zero | September 17, 2026 Premiere | ▶ Trailer

The event kicked off with new footage from the movie Resident Evil: Night Zero (Resident Evil). Directed by Zach Cregger, who made an impression with his horror direction in Barbarian and Weapons, the new film generated significant buzz.

The footage offered a fresh perspective on the aftermath of the zombie outbreak through the eyes of Bryan, a medical courier played by Austin Abrams. This film is a completely original story unrelated to the previous six-film Resident Evil series starring Milla Jovovich that ran from 2002.

Director Cregger previously stated that he focused on bringing the Capcom original game's signature survival-horror tension to the big screen. Cregger himself appeared in the video to open the State of Play showcase.

The trailer offered cinematic glimpses into the story and direction, showing Wolverine taking on various foes. Fans also got a look at Sentinels—one of the X-Men's primary nemeses—appearing in multiple forms to threaten Wolverine and his fellow mutants.

A new edition from Sucker Punch Productions. On top of the base game and Digital Deluxe Edition content, it bundles the new story expansion Echoes of Sekigahara and a new survival mode, Most Wanted. Both pieces of new content will be added via a patch on October 1.

Echoes of Sekigahara is a new story expansion that shifts between protagonist Atsu's past and present. Through flashbacks to when Atsu fought in the Battle of Sekigahara, it covers key events leading up to her vow of revenge before returning to her homeland.

'Most Wanted' is a single-player survival mode featuring roguelike elements. Players start runs by accepting bounties, growing stronger by defeating enemies and earning perks. In addition to Atsu, players can choose characters with distinct weapons, such as Oyuki, who wields a kusarigama, and Nagato, a new character wielding a yari. Jin Sakai, the protagonist of Ghost of Tsushima, also appears as a playable character.

Capcom debuted a new trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, introducing new locales, monsters, and combat systems.

The new narrative begins as the colossal Elder Dragon Lao-Shan Lung appears in the Forbidden Lands, wreaking havoc on the Expedition's camp. To prepare for another attack, the Expedition constructs Fort Madoi as a new base of operations and ventures out to explore Skybound Airi, an uncharted territory revealed as the mist over Wyveria clears.

Combat expands with the addition of the Boost Bracer, a new piece of equipment triggered via Slinger, introducing new moves and combos across all 14 weapon types. Detailed weapon actions will be revealed sequentially in the future.

State of Play also premiered the first console gameplay footage for Metro 2039, officially announcing its launch date for February 4, 2027. The showcase highlighted that the trailer featured 60fps console gameplay captured on PS5 Pro.

The video opens with new protagonist 'Stranger' emerging from underground tunnels onto the thawed surface ruins of Moscow. Once a Spartan warrior, Stranger bears a dark past and has no desire to return to the Metro he left behind.

The gameplay segment details a journey to locate Fort Novoreich near a dam, where every step on the surface presents fatal dangers. Tensions escalate with radiation hazards and threats lurking throughout collapsed apartment complexes.

4A Games confirmed that the title is powered by their proprietary 4A Engine, supporting ray tracing on both PS5 and PS5 Pro alongside 60fps gameplay in a dedicated Performance Mode.

A sequel to 2020's Maneater. Set in "Neptune's Kingdom," an ultra-luxury private island theme park, the trailer shows the player-controlled shark breaking free during a preview event at the mega-resort to embark on a journey of eating, exploring, and evolving.

Crimson Desert's first major expansion, Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown, headlined new mechanics such as underwater exploration and base building.

The trailer featured protagonist Kliff steering a ship out to sea, debuting underwater exploration content previously absent from the main game. Highlights included Kliff hitching a ride on the back of a giant shark underwater, as well as a new domain and castle building system that lets players customize territories and erect structures.

The story takes place after the conclusion of the main campaign, following Kliff, Ounka, and Damian as they seek out their respective goals across the continent of Pywel. Following the expansion of cutscenes and voice acting in "Crimson Desert Enhanced" shown at Gamescom, this release adds naval and construction pillars to a game originally focused on land-based action.

The DLC launches on October 15.

Previously leaked via rumors, LEGO PlayStation was officially announced during State of Play. This LEGO set recreates the original PlayStation console and controller at nearly a 1:1 scale.

Comprising 1,911 pieces, the completed set measures roughly 26 cm wide. It includes functional power and open buttons on the console, as well as a feature allowing the controller to be plugged directly into the system.

The set also includes mini-dioramas themed after Ape Escape and Gran Turismo. Both dioramas can be detached from the console unit for standalone display.

Square Enix revealed a new trailer for Final Fantasy Resonance, the Final Fantasy series' first HD-2D entry. Arriving on October 22, a free demo was also released alongside the trailer. The demo contains the entire Chapter 1, with save data carrying over to the full game.

A major highlight of the trailer was the appearance of Sephiroth. Players embark on a journey to protect crystals scattered across the world and stop forces bent on its destruction, with the trailer showcasing battles against iconic franchise characters like Sephiroth.

The title inherits classic series elements like turn-based command combat, Chocobos, and airships, while introducing a new job system variant called Vision.

A new Gundam title, Gundam Rogue Orbit, shared fresh details across both State of Play and State of Play Japan.

A new trailer focused heavily on high-impact combat accompanied the official release date announcement of March 5, 2027. First revealed at Summer Game Fest last June, this third-person high-mobility action title is set in an entirely original Gundam timeline.

During State of Play Japan, producer Yuya Tomiyama joined the broadcast to introduce Gundam Rogue Orbit, highlighting its fast-paced combat and deep customization elements.

A Mobile Suit's mobility and combat behavior shift dynamically depending on individual part configurations. The broadcast also confirmed players can freely customize unit color palettes or equip MOD skins to replicate the classic look of the iconic RX-78-2 Gundam.

Hunter's Moon is a first-person narrative folk horror title set in historical England, launching exclusively on PS5 on October 26. Developed by newly formed studio Twin Swans, players control a woman accused of witchcraft, fleeing across villages, forests, and desolate moors.

Pursued by a witch hunter captain, a village magistrate, and pursuers, players must rely on stealth and evasion rather than direct combat. Survival depends on finding clues and receiving aid, such as overhearing conversations through windows or encountering mummer troupes in traditional folk attire.

At its core is an eavesdropping mechanic inspired by immersive theater, allowing players to piece together the history of the entire village through the personal tales of citizens weary from war and hardship.

Uncannyon is developed by Graceful Decay and published by Annapurna Interactive. The game follows Sonia, a traveler stranded in an unfamiliar land, as she explores Uncannyon—a ruined realm formed by intertwined parallel universes.

Entering out of simple curiosity at first, Sonia gradually realizes why this realm needs her, bearing the burden of saving the world. Puzzles serve as a core mechanic, as spatial shifts into alternate parallel worlds clear obstacles or open new paths.

Konami unveiled two trailers for its brand-new RPG: a story trailer teasing character dynamics, and a second trailer featuring action combat where player decisions alter the course of battle.

The footage opens on a peaceful world where citizens live according to lifelong roles called "Divine Names," assigned by a massive celestial astrolabe in the sky. However, as the lethal "Rain of Light" resurfaces to threaten the realm, protagonist Ash and Finne, daughter of the Goddess Church leader, set out on a journey to halt the calamity.

Combat showcases standard and Arts attacks, perfect dodge counters, auxiliary "Saint Commands" that sway battle tides, and the "Light Core" system, which combines powers inherited from allies met along the journey.

Rhapsody in Scarlet, another new title from Konami, shared details across both State of Play and State of Play Japan.

Set in jazz-filled 1920s New York, the game features combo action combining magic and beasts, centered on shadow conflicts among covert magic wielders beneath the city's glamorous exterior. Players control Ellie, a young Magus drawn into an inescapable fate.

The trailer showed Ellie fighting alongside her beast companion Skoll, seamlessly combining melee/ranged attacks, area-of-effect magic, and beast abilities.

A supplementary story trailer depicts Ellie arriving in New York aspiring to be a jazz singer, only to get entangled in a mafia conspiracy following an incident. She encounters Ilya, leader of the Seekers organization, and despite clashing ideals, the two unite to confront a destiny that threatens world balance.

Housemarque's Saros, launched last April, expands its content with the free "Zenith" update.

Overlord Rush, a new mode pitting players against successive Overlord boss enemies, lets players compete on global leaderboards, carrying forward Housemarque's signature arcade-style challenge design.

It also adds Eclipse Layer, a New Game Plus-style mode that restarts the game at heightened difficulty upon completion, alongside new progression options.

■ Gran Turismo 7 - Spec IV | Releasing in Parts in October & December 2026 | ▶ Trailer

Gran Turismo 7 unveiled its major free update, Spec IV, at State of Play. Studio head Kazunori Yamauchi introduced it as an update commemorating the Gran Turismo franchise's upcoming 30th anniversary in 2027. He explained that due to the volume of content, it will be released in two parts in October and December of this year.

In October, Japan's Sportsland SUGO will be added as a new circuit, featuring the undulating track famous for its Dunlop Bridge. In December, Autumn Ring—a historic circuit from the very first entry—returns, alongside new competitive modes including Online Drift Trials and Shuffle Races with randomized conditions.

Across both updates, 12 new vehicles will be added, with specific models to be announced later.

The December update will also introduce "Family Mode," an accessible mode designed for friends and family of varying skill levels to enjoy together.

First revealed during June's State of Play, Until Dawn 2 officially confirmed its launch date as January 28, 2027.

Following Supermassive Games' 2015 original, Firesprite handles development for this direct sequel. The new trailer opens with the crew of "Dead True"—a fake ghost-hunting YouTube channel—infiltrating Blackwood Sanatorium to investigate a tragedy from 12 years ago.

New intern Izzy uncovers something unexpected that upends the team's plans. After Yuna, a survivor met at Sydney HorrorCon, reveals a necrotic scar on her neck and gives a warning, the crew sets off for a remote South Pacific island abandoned since its resort closed in the 1970s.

The trailer reconfirmed the series' signature branching choice system, showing Owen deciding whether to pursue missing teammate Nate or detour to investigate a bar.
