Through Sony's State of Play, the release date for the final entry in the 'Final Fantasy VII' remake trilogy was finally confirmed as April 8, 2027.
During the PlayStation State of Play broadcast on the 3rd, Square Enix revealed new gameplay footage for 'Final Fantasy VII Revelation' and announced its release date as April 8, 2027.
Along with a trailer containing the release date shown at the end of the broadcast, Final Fantasy VII Revelation simultaneously unveiled a deep dive gameplay video lasting roughly 10 minutes. The release timing, previously known only as Spring 2027, has now been locked down to a specific date.
Revelation is the final chapter of the remake trilogy that began in 2020 with 'Final Fantasy VII Remake' and continued in 2024 with 'Final Fantasy VII Rebirth'. It also serves as the title that concludes the latter half of the original 'Final Fantasy VII' story.
At the core of the combat system is the newly introduced FITS (Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear) system. Party members can freely switch up their play styles by equipping a total of four specialized outfits—Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner—with each outfit granting a unique skill set and combat function to dramatically expand strategic options.
In the revealed video, Cid was shown wearing the Knight suit while Vincent wore the Summoner suit. FITS alters not only combat abilities but also character appearances, which the development team introduced as a fashion element.
Party management has also become significantly more flexible. A new character-switching feature allows players to swap party members in real time during exploration, while a system has been introduced letting players choose which party member undertakes specific quests. The developers explained that these choices are designed to have a practical impact on subsequent story progression and gameplay situations.
Exploration elements have expanded dramatically on an open-world scale. Players can directly pilot the series' iconic airship, the Highwind, to traverse the entire planet. On ground exploration, the chocobo Piko makes an appearance. Notably, Piko serves as more than just a means of transport this time, taking on a companion role that joins in combat.
Piko grows alongside the party, acquiring new capabilities in both traversal and combat. A grappling gun to assist with urban movement has also been newly added, allowing fast traversal between rooftops; Yuffie was previously seen zip-lining across cities with the grappling gun in trailers such as the Gamescom video.
Covering the final chapter of the series, 'Final Fantasy VII Revelation' will be released on April 8 for PC, PS5, XSX|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
