Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis documentary series spotlights villain Natla

Amazon Game Studios and developer Crystal Dynamics have released the seventh episode of a mini-documentary series covering the making of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a reimagining of Lara Croft's 1996 debut adventure.

The latest episode centres on Jacqueline Natla, the immortal former ruler of Ancient Atlantis and CEO of Natla Technologies, who serves as the main antagonist as Croft uncovers the secrets of Atlantis.

Natla is voiced by Adrienne Wilkinson, who used the episode to explain the character's role in the story.

"She might be a little terrifying — but oh will you love every second around her," Wilkinson said. "Stories like Tomb Raider need someone like Natla because stories need the idea of a 'noble foe.' It happens within everyone's life. You have someone within your life that motivates you to push harder, to go further, and Natla does that. She raises the stakes every time she does something."

The series has run since the game's announcement, with previous instalments covering combat and progression, puzzles and traps, traversal and movement, the creatures of Peru, the reimagining of the Peru setting, and an introductory look at Lara Croft.

According to a release, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will launch on February 12th, 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2.

What is Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis?

According to the release, Legacy of Atlantis is a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure title that follows Croft on a globe-trotting quest to find the lost secrets of Atlantis. The publisher described the game as featuring 'jaw-dropping visuals' and 'modernized gameplay', alongside redesigned versions of familiar puzzles and set pieces from the 1996 original, including the series' well-known T-Rex encounter.

Crystal Dynamics has led development on the Tomb Raider franchise since 2006's Tomb Raider: Legend, and was acquired by Swedish holding company Embracer Group from Square Enix in 2022. Amazon Games confirmed in the same year that it would publish the studio's next Tomb Raider title, marking one of the largest third-party projects taken on by the publishing arm to date.

Amazon's wider involvement with the property also extends beyond games, with a live-action Tomb Raider series in development for Prime Video.
