Byte Barrel, developer of the 'Forgive Me Father' series, has revealed a new trailer for its upcoming first-person shooter 'DIOXIDE'. Featuring cel-shaded graphics reminiscent of the 'Borderlands' series, the title is being developed as a hardcore tactical FPS combined with Soulslike elements.
The game is set in a dystopian world ravaged by industrial decay. Players take on the role of a disposable asset in a society ruled by a mega-corporation. Upon acquiring the Core-ID administrator module, they gain the ability to revive after death while becoming the corporation's top target for elimination. The player's goal is to tear down the system and establish a sanctuary for the remnants of humanity.
Combat involves combining various firearms and customizing weapons with modules and attachments as players face off against 'neo-antique enforcers'—enemies mass-produced under the guise of maintaining order. Precise aiming and strategic judgment are required, with the game emphasizing that brute firepower alone will not guarantee survival.
The setting consists of a city featuring soot-choked production zones, a toxic undercity, and heavily guarded upper-class districts, with each area presenting both threats and sources of resources vital for growth. As players progress through the game, they can rescue civilians exploited by the corporation and bring them to the sanctuary, leaving it up to player choice whether to protect them and earn their loyalty or consume them as resources.
'DIOXIDE' is the latest title from Polish developer Byte Barrel, known for the comic book-style FPS 'Forgive Me Father' series featuring zombies and cults. It is scheduled to launch on PC, with an exact release date yet to be announced.
