UK-based game developer Dlala Studios, headquartered in Witham, announced that it has unveiled its new isometric action-adventure game 'Murals' for the first time at gamescom Opening Night Live 2026.

Dlala Studios is the game studio behind 'Battletoads (2020)' and 'Disney Illusion Island.' 'Murals' is Dlala Studios' first fully original IP in over a decade, as well as the studio's first self-published title.

'Murals' reimagines classic fairy tales and folklore, including Sleeping Beauty, Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, The Little Mermaid, and Rapunzel. It presents an original fairy tale world that turns familiar stories upside down, featuring recognizable characters as enemies and expanding minor details from the original works into new characters and events.

Players step into the shoes of an amnesiac hero who awakens in Sleeping Beauty's castle. Accompanied by 'Loaf,' a living sketch, players must escape the castle, discover their identity, and explore the twisted fairy tale world.

Combat utilizes melee and ranged weapons, each with distinct characteristics. Weapons can be selected based on playstyle rather than mere attack values, requiring players to analyze the combination of enemies before diving into battle to customize their loadout.

The game also features 'Eeries,' an enhancement system that grants various effects to the player or their weapons. Players can combine multiple Eeries to create their own combat builds. Eeries are acquired through 'Magic Dave,' a character encountered during the adventure, who is voiced by British comedian Bob Mortimer.

Between battles, players will engage in interactions tailored to each fairy tale's theme, such as solving puzzles using gingerbread characters or scaling towers by braiding hair with magical devices. The game can be progressed through without repetitive grinding, and it supports various difficulty settings to adjust enemy health and attack power.

The visuals combine hand-drawn 2D environments with 3D characters, lighting, and visual effects. The music is composed by David Housden, composer for 'Battletoads' and 'Disney Illusion Island.' The game will also offer English voice acting and text localization in 11 languages.
