The 2026 Overwatch World Cup (OWWC) Group Stage, where the world's top national teams will face off, will take place from August 20 to 23 at the Busan Esports Arena (BRENA). Blizzard Entertainment is hosting the tournament in partnership with the Busan Metropolitan City and the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency. Only eight teams will advance from this stage to the final stage at BlizzCon 2026, held at the Anaheim Convention Center in the United States.
This year's tournament saw 52 national and regional teams from around the world compete for a spot, with 16 teams ultimately qualifying for the Busan Group Stage. Group A features China, the United States, Sweden, and Japan, while Group B includes Saudi Arabia, Australia, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. Group C consists of Canada, Germany, Thailand, and Spain, and South Korea has been placed in Group D alongside France, Denmark, and Colombia to compete for a spot in the finals.
The tournament structure features four teams per group competing in a best-of-five single round-robin format. A total of 24 matches are scheduled over four days, with six matches per day. Only the top two teams from each group will secure tickets to the final stage, which will be held on September 12 and 13 (PST). Buyers of in-person tickets sold via Ticketlink are eligible to apply for a Meet & Greet with the players, and tickets for the South Korean team's match days have already sold out, reflecting intense fan interest. The match schedule has been optimized for global viewers, and all games will be broadcast live via the official Overwatch esports channels on Soop and Chzzk.
Various side events will also take place around the tournament venue. Overwatch recently launched its Season 4 'Heroes of Busan' update and introduced a new Korean hero, 'D.Mon.' Additionally, a large-scale event hosted by Nexon, 'Overwatch Day,' will be held at BEXCO Exhibition Center 1 on August 22 and 23. The venue will host live viewings of the Group Stage and a fan meeting for the South Korean national team. The event will also feature a developer talk session with Walter Kong, General Manager and Senior Vice President of Blizzard Live Games/Mobile, Ben Bell, Executive Producer and Senior Vice President of Overwatch, and Aaron Keller, Overwatch Game Director, as well as a live drawing show by artists from Blizzard Korea Studio.
