NEXUS announces July 23rd launch date for strategy game Frost Kingdom

According to an announcement, NEXUS has revealed that its strategy simulation game Frost Kingdom will launch worldwide on July 23rd across iOS, Android and PC. The title marks the company's first game to be self-published and will be available in both a domestic South Korean version and a global version featuring blockchain functionality. According to the announcement, NEXUS describes Frost Kingdom as the world's first Web3 strategy simulation game (SLG).

Ahead of launch, the company also shared results from the game's closed beta test (CBT), which ran from June 4th-10th. According to the announcement, players from more than 100 countries participated, with Brazil, Indonesia and the Philippines recording the highest levels of activity.

The beta also marked the first implementation of NEXUS' proprietary CROSS Game Hub platform. According to the release, payments made through the CROSS platform accounted for 78.1% of all CBT transactions. NEXUS stated that all money spent during the beta will be refunded after launch in the form of Red Dia, the game's primary in-game currency.

Frost Kingdom combines traditional medieval kingdom-building gameplay with a merge mechanic that allows players to combine buildings and military units to accelerate progression. According to the announcement, the game includes more than 100 unit types alongside a four-tier hero collection and progression system.

NEXUS outlines Frost Kingdom blockchain economy

Alongside confirming the launch date, NEXUS also revealed details of the blockchain economy that will feature in the global version of the game.

According to the announcement, players will be able to trade blockchain-based in-game assets, while the game's core token, RDIA, will only be obtainable through a limited Genesis Box pre-sale rather than ongoing in-game issuance. The company stated that RDIA can be converted into Red Dia for use within the game before being exchanged into CROSSD, a token designed for use across the wider CROSS ecosystem. NEXUS also announced that its CROSS blockchain ecosystem will undergo a rebrand, with the CROSS mainnet becoming ONEChain and the native CROSS token transitioning to ONE.

In addition, the company revealed that CROSS Shop, which is powered by CROSS Game Hub, is scheduled to integrate with ONE Store's web shop during July before relaunching as ONE Shop. The launch announcement also confirmed that pre-registration remains open through the game's official website, with players able to earn milestone-based rewards including cosmetic skins and in-game currency.

Henry Chang, CEO of NEXUS, commented on the launch: "If MMORPGs proved the potential of blockchain gaming, SLGs — with their advanced resource and territory competition and alliance systems — are a genre capable of powerful synergy when combined with blockchain.
