An in-depth MXM guide to Sonid - The long-range baseball ace with heavy-hitting swings

Sonid, the Ace, is a Helix-attuned Marksman. He uses his Kinetic Amplifier as a weapon along with his baseball skills to take down his enemies. His weapon attack can be charged, increasing his attack’s damage and projectile speed.

Sonid’s skills are long-ranged attacks specialized in poking, dashes covering a long distance, and projectile blocks. You can play Sonid by poking from afar or by using a hit-and-run strategy.

Sonid’s passive skill grants him additional critical strike damage based on his missing health, giving him increased damage when in a pinch . You can also help your ally survive with Sonid’s survival skill. Sonid’s ult is fairly versatile as it can launch both enemies and allies into the air.

▣ Just need 30 seconds before the battle starts! Recommended Master options

◆ Recommended Augments

You’ll mainly deal damage with Sonid’s charged weapon attacks, which allow you to enhance the damage and projectile speed. Choosing Charge Time is the only way to increase the rate at which Sonid can send out charged attacks, so pick it in order to deal more damage.

◆ Recommended Skill Combinations

The Scatterball and Firecracker skill combo allows you to play offensively. Since damage is reduced by 30% against targets within 5m, poke from a distance if you want to use this skill combo.

The Catcher’s Mitt and Power Slide skill combo lets you play defensively rather than offensively. You can use this skill combo to easily block enemy projectiles or evade their attacks. Since both skills let you cover a long distance, you can poke rather offensively at your enemies from a close distance and then use these skills to run.

◆ Node Compatibility

Since Sonid is a damage dealer who mainly uses his weapon attacks, it’s best to boost your attack damage with Weapon Damage or Defense Penetration Nodes. You can also use Nodes with Critical Hit Chance to enhance your Critical Strike rate.

Since Sonid is specialized in long-ranged attacks but weak against melee attacks, you can also go for Movement Speed Nodes to quickly distance yourself from any incoming enemies.

◆ Recommended Spell

Sonid is vulnerable to enemies flanking or ambushing him from behind, so always keep vision around you with Titan’s Gaze for safety. You can also use this spell to prepare yourself with charged weapon attacks against any nearing enemies.

◆ Traits Priority

It is best to invest your Trait points in Weapon Damage since Sonid’s main damage comes from his weapon attacks. You should also invest points in Penetration to deal damage more effectively against tanky enemies.

▣ Poke from a safe distance! Sonid’s Skill Set

Scatterball is a long-ranged skill that knocks 4 balls out in a cone. Although it is a powerful skill, it’s not easy to hit the target with it; use it to poke at enemies near you as well as kill off enemy units in a cluster. If you upgrade this skill to level 6, it will fire 2 additional projectiles, which will become very helpful when poking at your enemies. Multiple balls may hit the same target, though they deal reduced damage.

Catcher’s Mitt is a defensive skill that blocks enemy projectiles by dashing in the target direction. You can use this skill to directly block an enemy projectile, but you can also use it to distance yourself from enemies. Pressing the skill button once more will throw a damaging ball in the target direction.

Power Slide is a skill that lets you slide to the target area and push any enemy hit back by 2m. It’s not a hard CC skill, so it would be more efficient to use for putting distance between you and your enemy instead of dashing into them. However, upgrading it to level 6 will let you knock an enemy down instead of back, allowing your allies to follow up with their skill combos.

Firecracker is a skill that throws a ball at the target, creating a trail of fire after it. This line of fire helps you keep your enemy from approaching any closer. Of course, you can also deal direct damage to your enemy. Any opponents standing in the line of fire will receive damage for 3 seconds, making it a good skill to use in a team fight.

▲ Shoot Firecracker in your enemy’s direction to either deal damage or keep to them from moving.

Underdog is Sonid’s passive skill, and it increases his Critical Strike Chance by 5% for every 10% of max health missing. You can increase the Critical Hit Chance with Nodes to inflict more damage.

Sonid’s survival skill, Dustkicker, creates a dust cloud as Sonid slides in the target direction. All ally and enemy weapon attacks are nullified in the dust cloud. When your allies are facing danger in a cluster, you can use this skill to nullify enemy damage.

Knock Em Out of the Park is Sonid’s ult, which sends a target flying into the air for 12m. You can target both ally and enemy, and launch all Masters standing near the target into the air together. You can use it to send any approaching enemy away, or use either Catcher’s Mitt or Power Slide to advance toward an enemy and hit them over to your allies to attack. You can also use it to send one of your allies into the enemy team, which is a great combo to use with Masters who deal burst damage or have good initiation.

▲ Blast your enemy away with your ult from behind!

▣ Add to your team’s damage by charging your weapon attacks! How to effectively play Sonid

Sonid’s damage mainly comes from his charged weapon attacks. You can inflict high damage within a single shot while still maintaining a good distance from your opponents. However, due to the time interval between charge attacks, your rate of fire is quite slow. To make up for this, try to stick with an ally or two so that they can fill in the gap between your charges with their own attacks; this way, enemies will be less likely to attempt to take you down while you’re charging.

In order to farm, it’s better to kill monsters in the jungle instead of killing enemy units in Titan Ruins. Since Sonid’s weapon attacks do not penetrate his enemy’s defense, it is disadvantageous for Sonid to face several opponents at once. This is why it is better for Sonid to farm single monsters that offer a lot of experience.

However, since he is very vulnerable to melee attacks, Sonid may easily be taken down by a sudden enemy ambush in the jungle. So if possible, try to move around the jungle with an ally nearby. If your allies are occupied or not much for company, just be sure to keep an eye out and be ready to escape using one of Sonid’s evasive skills.

When team fights happen or trading takes place in the lane, you’ll need to prevent enemy Masters from getting close to you. Use Scatterball or Firecracker at the right moment to keep your enemies at bay, and then charge your weapon attack to deal damage from afar.

▲ The more you charge Sonid’s attacks, the more he’ll be able to outplay his opponents.

Since his charged weapon attacks are so powerful, you can use them to take down enemies who are fleeing with low HP. Going for those kills often requires you to move towards the enemy base, so only use this playstyle when your other Master has high survivability. You’ll also need to be able to run away fast, so have either Catcher’s Mitt or Power Slide in your skill set for this hit-and-run strategy.

It’s never easy trying to hit a moving target, so finish off defenseless enemies recalling to their base with low HP. Or, wait behind enemy lines for a chance to use your ult on fleeing Masters, sending them flying into your allies’ grasp.

▲ You can use Power Slide to ambush from behind or evade enemy attacks.
