During the Nintendo Direct held on the 9th, SQUARE ENIX unveiled 'Final Fantasy Resonance,' the first new title in the series to feature HD-2D graphics.
Announced by SQUARE ENIX on the 9th, Final Fantasy Resonance is the first entry in the Final Fantasy series to adopt the HD-2D art style. HD-2D combines pixel art sprites with 3D backgrounds to create a distinct, three-dimensional visual experience.
Initially introduced in new IPs like OCTOPATH TRAVELER and Triangle Strategy, this style has since been utilized in the Live A Live remake, as well as the Dragon Quest III and Dragon Quest I & II remakes, expanding its reach across SQUARE ENIX's flagship franchises. Now, with Final Fantasy Resonance, the technology has been brought to the Final Fantasy series as well.
Based on the mobile RPG Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, which ended service in 2024, this title is more than a simple port; it is being reimagined for consoles. The use of HD-2D is a key reflection of that vision.
Final Fantasy Resonance will launch on October 22 for Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
