Frosty Game Fest 2026, a showcase featuring the most unique indie games from Australia and New Zealand and an official part of the global summer gaming festival Summer Game Fest, was broadcast online on the 6th (local time).

Now in its second year, Frosty Game Fest was held with the support of the Centre of Digital Excellence (CODE) in New Zealand and developer Strange Scaffold. During the showcase, prominent streamers and journalists from across Australia and New Zealand served as hosts, unveiling information on various new titles from over 50 regional studios.

The event kicked off with the announcement of a Steam demo for 'Janet DeMornay,' a comedy-horror game about a landlord and a witch. This was followed by a reveal of unique gameplay from 'Cow Chess,' a real-time artillery shooter that blends the style of the Worms series with Supermassive-style chaotic combat.

Diverse genre experiments also stood out. Titles introduced for the first time at Frosty Game Fest included 'Fishing Echo,' a fantasy fishing RPG inspired by the rainforests of North Queensland where players track fish ecology and master mysterious abilities, and 'Verbal Void,' a story-driven adventure developed to honor neurodiversity.

Experimental works incorporating the unique humor and narrative structures of Australia and New Zealand were also notable. Highlights included 'Penguin Colony,' which depicts a conflict between Maori-based guardians and Nazi relic hunters—and Lovecraftian cosmic horror—all from the perspective of a penguin, and 'Night Shift: 1999,' a simulation game about a vampire working the night shift at a local hospital in post-apocalyptic Sydney.

The Frosty Games team, which organized the event, stated, "Games from Australia and New Zealand, created down under, are punching above their weight in the global market in terms of scale and originality. A dedicated event page is now live on Steam, and we encourage users to add these titles to their wishlists and try the free demos."
