As the global semiconductor shortage continues to drive up prices for PC hardware and various consoles, Valve has raised the price of its handheld PC gaming device, the Steam Deck OLED, by as much as $300.
Valve announced the price adjustment alongside news of a restock for the Steam Deck OLED via its Steam hardware news hub today (the 28th). The price of the 512GB model has increased from $549 to $789, while the 1TB model has risen from $649 to $949—an increase of approximately 40%.
The price hikes apply not only to the U.S. but also to Canada, Europe, the U.K., Australia, and Poland. Notably, the increase varies by region, with prices rising by at least 25% in Poland and up to 60% in Canada.
In its announcement, Valve stated, "There are no changes to the Steam Deck itself; we have adjusted the pricing to reflect current component costs and the broader global logistics situation in the industry."
Meanwhile, with Valve implementing such a significant price hike for the Steam Deck OLED, concerns are spreading across the community that further increases may be coming to regions where prices have not yet been adjusted.
Valve previously raised the price of the Steam Deck OLED in Asian markets, including South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, back in February. At that time, the 512GB model was adjusted from ₩839k to ₩898,000, and the 1TB model from ₩989k to ₩1048000.
If a 40% increase—matching the U.S. rate—is applied to the domestic market, there is a possibility that prices in Korea could rise significantly. Based on simple calculations, the 512GB model could reach approximately ₩1,257,000, and the 1TB model approximately ₩1467200. Compared to current prices, this would represent an increase of between ₩350k and ₩400k per model.
