
On May 23, 2026, the BitSummit Executive Committee officially announced the award winners for 'BitSummit PUNCH,' one of Japan's largest indie game events, currently being held at Miyako Messe in Kyoto.
The 'Vermilion Gate Award,' the event's grand prize for the most outstanding entry, was awarded to 'Artis Impact' by developer Mas. The jury praised the title, stating, "It brilliantly embodies every element required for this award and is an exceptional work that leaves a strong impression with its distinct Japanese style."
The 'International Award,' given to the best overseas entry, went to 'Dungeon Clawle,' a novel roguelike deck-builder where players use a crane game mechanic to pick up items for battle.
The 'Innovative Outlaw Award,' which recognizes technical and conceptual innovation, was presented to 'YaoyoroZOO' (AlSH) for its creative use of not only controllers but also player facial movements, such as blinking.
In addition, excellence awards were presented in various categories based on multi-faceted evaluations of game quality. The Excellence in Game Design award went to DDDistortion's 'Nightmare Operator,' noted for its trial-and-error approach in blending TPS shooter mechanics with fighting game conventions. The Excellence in Visual Design award was given to lidlocks' 'Finding Polka,' which features hand-drawn art that unfolds into interactive animations, while the Excellence in Audio Design award went to Hoshimadara Lab.'s 'Cento' for its superb integration of sound direction and gameplay.
In the sponsor award category, D-Pad Studio's 'Vikings on Trampolines' received the PlayStation Award, and '60 Bottles' by Matrix Co., Ltd. and Hinata Co., Ltd. won the ID@Xbox Award. Additionally, the 'Media Highlight Awards,' selected by various outlets including Famitsu, IGN JAPAN, and 4game, were announced alongside the Student Game Jam Award winner, 'Torima Headbang.'
The winners of the 'Popular Selection Award' and 'Kids Selection Award,' determined by attendee votes, will be announced at a later date following the conclusion of the event.
Meanwhile, 'BitSummit Punch' will be held for three days from May 22 to 24, 2026. Launched in late 2012 with the goal of 'sharing Japan's interesting indie games with the world,' BitSummit has seen steady growth, expanding from its first event in 2013 with around 200 attendees to drawing over 58k visitors in 2025. This year marks the event's 14th anniversary.
