Kakao Games announced on the 11th that it revealed details for the new expansion, 'Return of the Ancients,' during a live broadcast for 'Path of Exile 2,' which the company services in Korea.

Launching on May 30 (KST), 'Return of the Ancients' features a vast array of content, including a major overhaul of the endgame system, a new league storyline, new ascendancy classes, and a revamped crafting system. Notably, the update focuses on expanding the player experience by redesigning the endgame (Atlas)—previously centered on repetitive combat—into a story-driven structure.

Players will explore various regions, such as 'Kingsmarch' and the 'Strange Forest,' centered around a massive fortress to reach the final boss. The fortress is a multi-layered, large-scale exploration zone where players can earn high-tier rewards, including unique equipment. Additionally, the Atlas passive tree has been completely overhauled to allow for more strategic gameplay.

The new league, 'Runes of Aldur,' introduces an item crafting system that utilizes ancient rune technology. Players can carve rune symbols into mysterious ruins to transform or enhance item options, and experience a unique combat mechanic where monsters are empowered based on the rune combinations used.

Two new ascendancy classes are also being added. The 'Spirit Walker,' an ascendancy for the Huntress, communicates with animal spirits to bolster offensive and defensive capabilities, while the 'Martial Artist,' an ascendancy for the Monk, features close-quarters combat where the character equips runes directly onto their body and creates illusions.

Furthermore, over 30 new unique items and a 'Challenge System' will be introduced. Players who complete all eight missions will receive the 'Knight of Aldur' armor set as a reward. User convenience will also be significantly improved with the addition of navigation landmarks, a map with real-time search support, and a build guide system.

'Path of Exile 2,' currently in development with a target for official release within the year, will launch this expansion simultaneously on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms on May 30.
