Subnautica 2, which continues to hold the top spot on the Steam wishlist, has signaled that it is gearing up for launch with an early access showcase.
On the 9th (local time), Unknown Worlds hosted the 'Subnautica 2 Early Access First Dive Showcase,' revealing new gameplay footage and additional details.
While the cinematic trailer released on April 30 focused on the game's world and atmosphere, this new gameplay trailer is the first official look at actual in-game footage. The video follows a player who has crash-landed on a new alien planet, showing them gathering resources and operating a submersible as they descend from shallow, coral-filled waters into the lightless depths of the ocean.
The narrative elements, combined with massive trees, mysterious auditory hallucinations during survival, and narration urging the player to focus on the exploration ahead, create a bleak yet mystical atmosphere. It leaves the impression that the game successfully inherits the unique underwater exploration experience that balances a sense of dread with the wonder of an alien marine world.
Alongside the trailer, the developers held a two-hour showcase to provide a deeper look at the game. The event highlighted the new multiplayer features, enhanced graphics, and a fresh ecosystem filled with new life forms. Additionally, a more flexible building system compared to previous entries will allow players to design and decorate their bases with greater creativity.
The game will launch in early access on May 15 via Steam, the Epic Games Store, the Microsoft Store, and Xbox Series X|S. With the addition of the Xbox platform and planned multiplayer support, up to four players—including the host—will be able to enjoy the game together via cross-play across different platforms.
Although the road to launch has been rocky, marked by disputes between Krafton and the co-founders of Unknown Worlds and concerns over an indefinite delay, market anticipation has remained consistently high. The game has held the number one spot on the Steam global wishlist for over six months, and the cinematic trailer released on April 30 surpassed 1.2 million views in just 24 hours. It has now reached 7.3 million views, proving that interest in the title is hotter than ever.
