Following protagonist Fox McCloud's appearance in Super Mario Galaxy and persistent rumors of a remake, a new Star Fox title has been officially unveiled. Notably, the announcement also confirmed full Korean voice dubbing.
On the 7th, Nintendo announced a 'Star Fox Direct' via its online information app Nintendo Today, X, and its official website, revealing game details and a release schedule. Unlike typical Nintendo Directs, which are usually announced a day in advance, this was a genuine surprise reveal.
The video began with an introduction from Representative Director and Fellow Shigeru Miyamoto. He referenced Fox McCloud’s recent appearance alongside the Mario family in the Super Mario Galaxy movie, announcing that the story of Fox and his crew will be revived on the Nintendo Switch 2. The new title will be released simply as 'Star Fox,' without a subtitle.
Yoshiaki Koizumi, Senior Executive Officer, continued the presentation by introducing the game as a reimagining based on Star Fox 64, featuring newly redesigned characters. The core gameplay remains true to the original, with players piloting the Arwing—the Star Fox team's signature craft—through stages that feature the series' trademark movement and target-oriented progression. These elements are complemented by significantly enhanced graphics for a more polished visual experience.

The mercenary squadron returns with familiar faces: Fox, Falco, Slippy, and Peppy. The characteristics of each vehicle were also detailed. The Arwing, based on laser attacks, can deal area-of-effect damage with charge shots and bombs. Players can also adjust speed and use barrel rolls to deflect enemy fire. Gameplay footage also showcased the Landmaster tank for ground combat and the Blue Marine submersible for underwater exploration.
The game includes a story mode where players join their allies to head toward the enemy stronghold to protect the peace of the Lylat System. The journey takes players across various planets, starting with Corneria, followed by the ice-covered Fichina, the scorching environment of Solar, and the desolate oceanic planet Zoness. Beyond these, various space environments like asteroid belts and nebulae serve as stages for the Star Fox team.
While stage progression is linear, the 'route system' allows for diverse paths. The route changes based on various factors, such as successfully shooting down enemies or meeting specific kill counts. Replaying the same stage can often unlock new paths. Furthermore, cinematic sequences powered by the improved graphics and between-stage briefings serve to deepen character relationships and expand the Star Fox universe.
The game also features a Challenge Mode for replaying cleared stages with new objectives, and a 4v4 Dogfight Battle Mode for team-based competition. Each battle map, such as Corneria or Fichina, features unique terrain and victory conditions, requiring players to adapt their strategies. In addition to online play, the game supports local wireless communication, allowing multiple players to enjoy the game with a single copy.

The announcement also confirmed support for Nintendo Switch 2 features, including Game Chat and Joy-Con mouse-control modes. Players can even enjoy a unique cooperative experience by sharing Joy-Cons, with one person piloting the craft while the other handles firing.
New features are also coming to Game Chat. By selecting one of the eight game characters, the system will track facial movements, expressions, and even lip-syncing to animate the character accordingly. This feature, dubbed 'Disguise Filter,' also allows players to appear as Fox and his crew to friends playing other games.
Koizumi noted that the team worked hard to make Fox and his crew look more 'animal-like' in this installment before announcing the release date. The game launches on June 25, with the Korean version arriving on July 2, about a week after the global release.
The video concluded with the game's prologue. The Korean version of the Nintendo Today app featured the video with full Korean dubbing, and the Star Fox Direct included a segment confirming that the game will be fully localized with Korean voice acting.
Meanwhile, with the official announcement of the new Star Fox title putting recent rumors to rest, anticipation is now building for the potential reveal of a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which has frequently been mentioned alongside it.
