It has been confirmed that starting in 2026, Call of Duty titles will be released exclusively for current-generation consoles.
Whether Call of Duty would end support for last-generation consoles has long been a hot topic among fans. So-called 'cross-gen' games, which continue to support older hardware, often suffer from slower visual and performance improvements due to necessary compromises, and they also present challenges in combating unauthorized programs and devices.
Rumors recently spread among fans that the upcoming title would also be released for last-gen consoles. On the 5th, Activision flatly denied these rumors via the official Call of Duty X (formerly Twitter) account. Activision stated, "We don't know where this report started, but it is not true. The next game is not being developed for PS4," effectively putting an end to the controversy surrounding the development of a last-gen version.
With this, Call of Duty will end its support for last-gen consoles after 13 years, dating back to 2013's 'Ghosts,' which supported the PS4 and Xbox One. Consequently, starting with the 2026 Call of Duty title developed by Infinity Ward, the series will be available only on current-generation consoles.
