Nintendo Australia and New Zealand officially announced the Pokemon Pocopia Switch 2 bundle via social media. Currently, the bundle is only confirmed for sale in Australia and New Zealand, where it will be available through the My Nintendo Store and select local retailers. While pricing and potential expansion to other regions have not been disclosed, the official nature of the product leaves the door open for a future global release.
Developed jointly by The Pokemon Company, Game Freak, and Koei Tecmo's Omega Force, Pokemon Pocopia is a sandbox builder life simulation that follows a Ditto as it searches for missing humans. The game was created based on an idea by Shigeru Ohmori, producer of the Pokemon series and director of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, leveraging Omega Force's sandbox development experience from Dragon Quest Builders 2.
By featuring a cute Ditto that can communicate with Pokemon and focusing on relaxing gameplay rather than combat, the title has garnered widespread acclaim and interest from a broad audience, similar to Animal Crossing. It set a record of 2.2 million units sold within just four days of release. This is considered a high sales velocity, especially given that the Nintendo Switch 2 is still in the early stages of its market rollout.
The Pokemon Pocopia bundle is seen as a strategic move by Nintendo to leverage this popularity to drive console sales. It follows the same approach used for the launch of the Switch 2, where the new series entry Mario Kart World was bundled to capture initial demand. Given that previous bundles were limited to Mario Kart World and Pokemon Legends Z-A, it is clear that Nintendo views Pokemon Pocopia as a 'killer title' to drive hardware adoption.
The Pokemon Pocopia bundle is scheduled for release in Australia and New Zealand on June 5, with release dates for other regions yet to be determined.
