As Capcom's new action-adventure game Pragmata gains traction among gamers, a father's short, heartfelt story is quietly touching the hearts of fans.

A 55-year-old man who posted on Reddit shared that he hadn't played video games for over 30 years, not since his college days. It was his daughter, Ella, who brought him back to gaming in 2024 when she was eight. After starting Fortnite at her suggestion, he went on to play titles like Hogwarts Legacy and Red Dead Redemption, finding a brief escape from reality and a great deal of comfort through the medium.
His connection to Pragmata also began with Ella. Seeing various videos and images of the game on his social media feed, Ella quietly said to her father as he looked at the screen, "Dad, that girl looks like Mackenzie's photo. Do you think Diana is like Mackenzie, too?" Prompted by her words, the man acquired the game and began playing it with Ella.
Mackenzie was the man's daughter who passed away in 2009 at the age of eight. He spoke of how Mackenzie, who left this world even younger than Ella is now at nine, would remain eight years old forever. The comfort he found through the games Ella encouraged him to play was his way of coping with the grief of losing his daughter.
The man, who is currently playing Pragmata, shared photos of his two daughters, noting how much Diana resembles them. He admitted that he found himself tearing up while playing, adding that he truly cherishes the time he spends playing with Ella.
"I feel like this game is healing my soul"
Diana, the protagonist of Pragmata, is an android made of a substance called Luna Filament who appears as a young girl. Appearing early in the game with no memory, Diana is curious and reacts to everything as if she is experiencing it for the first time. She is a character who treasures the name given to her by the other protagonist, Hugh, above all else.
The developers initially considered designing Diana to be more like a pure robot, but eventually shifted toward a more human-like direction for various reasons. As a result, this design choice has made Diana a character who reminds many players of their own children or family members.
The comfort a game can provide varies from person to person. For some, it is a fun pastime; for others, a place to rest. And for one father, it is a time to face both the daughter he lost and the daughter who is by his side today.
