Dead in Antares Launches on Steam, Expanding Ishtar Games’ Survival RPG Series

Publisher NACON and developer Ishtar Games have released Dead in Antares on Steam, marking the newest entry in the long-running survival and management RPG franchise.

The game expands on the mechanics established in earlier titles from the studio, which is known for projects including The Last Spell, Lakeburg Legacies and Dead in Vinland. The “Dead In” series, which recently passed its 10th anniversary, has built a reputation around blending resource management, character-driven storytelling and tactical combat.

Dead in Antares places players in control of a crew of specialists dispatched on an interstellar mission to secure resources for a struggling Earth. After an unexpected crash on the alien world Antares Prime, the narrative shifts toward survival, with players tasked with managing scarce supplies, maintaining crew morale and navigating branching storylines shaped by consequential decisions.

A decade of survival storytelling

According to Ishtar Games, the latest installment refines the series’ established formula while emphasizing its science-fiction setting. The game features interconnected survival systems, RPG-style character progression and turn-based tactical encounters. Players oversee up to 10 characters, each defined by distinct skills, traits and interpersonal dynamics.

“Dead in Antares is a very special project for us, as it’s the third episode of the ‘Dead In’ series,” said Benjamin Coquelle, producer at Ishtar Games, in a statement accompanying the release. He added that the team drew on experience gained from previous titles, particularly The Last Spell, in shaping the new game’s systems and structure.

The title launches with a two-week discount of 15%, with a supporter’s pack also available. The add-on includes a digital soundtrack composed by Antoine Boucherika, along with cosmetic items and an in-game companion.

Key features highlighted by the publisher include hand-drawn 2D visuals, multiple factions, upgradeable workstations and several difficulty modes, including a higher-challenge setting aimed at experienced players.
