Riot Games is bringing festive cheer to League of Legends with the return of its winter-themed map, giving Summoner’s Rift a seasonal makeover just in time for the holidays.
The refreshed winter variant, now available on live servers, features snowfall across the battlefield and a range of holiday-themed details. The map has appeared a handful of times throughout the game’s history and has generally been well-received by players. This year’s version introduces new visual flourishes and several hidden Easter eggs for fans to discover.
Among the standout additions are a Christmas Express train circling parts of the map, minions sporting Santa hats, and a bundled-up Baron Nashor wearing cold-weather gear. Riot says the update is meant to celebrate the end of the year while offering longtime players a nostalgic return to a fan-favorite map variant.

In addition to the map refresh, several new seasonal skins will arrive with Patch 25.24. These include Prestige Winter’s Blessing Mel, Rudolph Smolder, and Winter Fairy Zeri. They join past winter-themed cosmetics that will also be available during the event window.
Riot confirmed that the winter map and skins will roll out gradually and can be accessed from standard clients as well as participating PC cafés. The company encouraged players to check the official League of Legends website for patch notes and release timing.
The studio has increasingly expanded its in-game events during League of Legends’ 15th-anniversary year, pushing to deliver more frequent thematic updates across its catalog. Since launching in 2009, the MOBA has grown into one of the world’s most-played PC titles and a major driver of competitive esports. Riot’s larger portfolio now includes Teamfight Tactics, Legends of Runeterra, VALORANT, League of Legends: Wild Rift, and the upcoming fighting game 2XKO.
Riot has also continued widening the Runeterra universe through animation, comics, and music. Its first animated series, Arcane, debuted in 2021 and earned awards at both the Annie Awards and the Emmys for its first season.
The winter-themed Summoner’s Rift and accompanying skin line are available now as part of the ongoing Patch 25.24 rollout. Players can expect further holiday events and updates throughout the season.
