Resident Evil Village, the eighth officially numbered title in the Resident Evil series, has reached 10 million copies sold in its third year. This is the fastest milestone for any Resident Evil title in the series.
Capcom announced that Resident Evil Village has surpassed 10 million copies sold worldwide across all platforms and downloadable versions. Since its initial release in 2021, Resident Evil Village has been critically acclaimed for its rich and varied horror experience and heightened action, maintaining a high OpenCritic and Metacritic score of 84 and winning the 2021 Golden Joystick Award and the 2022 Japan Game Grand Prize. The game sold over 3 million copies in its first week of release and quickly surpassed 4 million copies, making it one of the most successful Resident Evil games ever.
Capcom said that the release of the Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, which adds additional scenarios to the main Village game, and additional developments on devices such as the iPhone 15 Pro have enabled the game to generate sales of approximately 2 million copies annually and that the game has been able to add new users and eventually reach 10 million copies, the fastest in the series, more than three years after its release. Capcom also expressed the company's ambition to continue to excel in game development, create original game titles, and fulfill users' expectations.
The Resident Evil series is Capcom's flagship property, having sold 157 million copies since the first installment was released in 1996. Currently, there are three titles in the Resident Evil series that have sold more than 10 million copies: Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, Resident Evil 2 Remake, and the new addition, Village.
The Resident Evil Village is the official sequel to Resident Evil 7, which was officially released on May 7, 2021. It takes place after the tragedy at Baker Manor in the previous game and is available for PC, PS, and Xbox platforms, as well as Nintendo Switch, iOS, and iPadOS.
