As Cloud9 defeated Evil Geniuses last weekend in the 2022 LCS Championship tournament, they have secured a spot at the 2022 LoL World Championship. This means that C9 mid laner Nikolaj “Jensen” Jensen will be appearing in his eighth consecutive Worlds, which is a new record in consecutive appearances at Worlds.
Jensen has been to the World Championship in two different teams. His record started in Cloud9 back in 2015, where he played as Incarnati0n, and the record continued through his days in Team Liquid from 2019 through 2021. After returning to his original team this summer, Jensen has led his team to another World Championship.
The previous record for consecutive appearances was held by Jensen and his former teammate, Zach “Sneaky” Scuderi, at seven. The next up on the list is Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in and Luca “Perkz” Perković, who have six consecutive Worlds appearances, but they have to defeat Counter Logic Gaming and the winner of EG vs. TSM in order to qualify for their seventh consecutive Worlds. If CoreJJ and Perkz fail to make it to Worlds this year, Jensen’s record is likely to be held for at least four more years.
Jensen will also tie his former TL teammate, Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng’s record for most overall Worlds appearances, which is also eight.
The 2022 LoL World Championship will begin on Sep. 29 with the play-in stage, leading to the grand finals in San Francisco on Nov. 5.
