Team BDS' academy bot laner Juš "Crownie" Marušič, formerly known as Crownshot, has received a competitive suspension of two games for behavior he displayed in solo queue games. BDS shared the news on their Twitter account. Matthew "xMatty" Coombs, bot laner on BDS' LEC team, will step in to compete in Crownie's place against LDLC OL and Mirage Elyandra.
In the announcement of the suspension, BDS states, "Team BDS acknowledges the suspension and strongly condemns this attitude which does not match the values that Team BDS represents and defends. Team BDS will take further internal measures that it considers appropriate."
Crownie himself also commented on his suspension, saying, "I accept my suspension and would like to apologize to those offended, my teammates and Team BDS fans. I will be the first supporter of the team this week."
On the LoL Esports site, Riot Games cited rule 9.1.10 of the official rulebook and stated, "Through the standard investigations carried out by League Officials prior to the start of each Season, evidence showed that Crownie displayed negative behavior while playing League of Legends. Crownie’s usage of inappropriate and offensive language towards other players in the game is unacceptable and has no place in our competitive ecosystem. Additionally, Crownie has an ongoing warning for similar behavior, and a repeated offense meant we had to escalate the penalty."
After playing in the LEC for several years in a row, the bot laner joined BDS Academy last offseason to compete with the team in the French regional league, the LFL. With the team, Crownie managed to secure a third-place finish in the regular split. In the Playoffs, BDS Academy reached the grand finals after toppling fan-favorite Karmine Corp. While they bit the dust against LDLC OL in the grand final, Crownie and his crew did qualify for the 2022 EU Masters main event, where they unfortunately stranded in the Group Stage.
In the 2022 LFL Summer Split, BDS Academy has been struggling. So far, the team is sitting at a 3-6 record, halfway into the regular season.
