The new era of G2 Esports is thriving. In a speedy 3-0 set, G2 have defeated their longtime rivals Fnatic 3-0 to advance to the finals of the LEC 2022 Spring Split. After a strong season that saw their team place second in the regular season, Fnatic finishes their playoff run in third. G2 will continue their championship aspirations against Rogue in the finals.
The result was a surprise to some fans, considering the previous matchup between the two European titans. In Round 1 of the winners' bracket, Fnatic defeated G2 in a comfortable fashion. Although G2 showed strength in the early stages of the game, their poor mid-game decision-making lost them control in several of the games, leading to a 3-1 result for Fnatic.
A new G2 showed up in Game 1 of the semifinals — executing a very solid teamfighting playstyle. Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski was the biggest win condition for G2, and one them several key kills in the early stages of the game. Fnatic once again showed an inability to play a Twisted Fate composition well — the same compositions that lost their series against Rogue previously.
G2 carried the momentum in Game 2, and had very strong success in the early game. Marek "Humanoid" Brázda did not play Twisted Fate, but had an equally difficult time with Kai'Sa. Rasmus "caPs" Winther and Victor "Flakked" Lirola in particular had very strong games — both racking up several kills that allowed them to carry the rest of the game.
Game 3 was the closest of the series. After G2 once again established a lead in the mid-game, Fnatic won a team fight that allowed them to secure Baron Nashor. However, G2 soon one a team fight of their own, and methodically destroyed Fnatic's base to win the game.
After their 2021, lineup that saw them fail to play in any domestic finals or international events, this new era of G2 already has them playing in them once again competing on Europe's highest stage. The team faces off against Rogue on April 10.
