The 2022 LPL Spring Split awards have been announced and Victory Five mid laner Song "Rookie" Eu-jin was named the Most Valuable Player. Rookie had one of the best splits in his career, which started in South Korea in 2014, and Victory Five finished 1st place in the 2022 LPL Spring Split.
After going 0-16 in the 2021 LPL Summer Split, Victory Five went for a full rebuild built around Rookie, who competed for Invictus Gaming from 2015 to 2021 and led IG to a world championship title in 2018. Rookie was paired with star jungler Hung "Karsa" Hao-Hsuan, who spent the last two years competing for Top Esports. Lee "Rich" Jae-won was signed as V5's top laner after a solid 2021 season in the LCK on Nongshim RedForce.
Support Guo "ppgod" Peng was actually with V5 for 2020 and the first half of 2021, but played for Bilibili Gaming in the second half of last season before returning to V5 for 2022. Young, promising AD carry Ying "Photic" Qi-Shen was paired with ppgod, and jungler Li "XLB" Xiao-Long was signed as the team's sixth man.
Victory Five absolutely popped off in the 2022 LPL Spring Split. They were the first team to qualify for the post-season, and with a record of 14-2, the Macao-based organization cruised to a 1st place finish. V5 only lost 11 individual games in the split.
Every starter on Victory Five had a strong regular season this spring, but Rookie stood out among his teammates. Rookie led all mid laners in the 2022 LPL Spring Split in damage per minute, was 2nd in kills, 2nd in assists, 3rd in KDA ratio, and was also in the top 5 for kill participation. Rookie has been an extremely consistent performer throughout his career, and is widely regarding as the second best mid laner of all time behind Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok, but this is his first MVP award.
