UPDATED Mar. 27: As a result of Evil Geniuses' ninth win of the 2022 LCS Spring Split, Dignitas QNTMPAY is the fourth and final team who will miss the post-season alongside Counter Logic Gaming, TSM, and Immortals. FlyQuest and Golden Guardians could potentially both finish 8-10 in the LCS Spring Split, which would tie both teams with Dignitas QNTMPAY, but the 0-2 head-to-head record DIG has against both FLY and GG bars them from Tiebreaker matches with either squad.
UPDATE Mar. 26: Counter Logic Gaming have been mathematically eliminated from 2022 LCS Spring Playoffs contention. CLG lost their 11th game of the LCS Spring Split to TSM, which means their best possible record to end the season would be 7-11, good for 7th place at best.
UPDATE Mar. 25: TSM are the 2nd team to be mathematically eliminated from the 2022 LCS Spring Split as a result of their 12th loss of the Spring Split. One game after Immortals Progressive was eliminated, TSM lost to 100 Thieves and will miss the post-season for the first time in LCS history.
Original story:
After their 12th loss of the 2022 LCS Spring Split at the hands of Counter Logic Gaming, Immortals Progressive have become the first LCS team to be mathematically eliminated from post-season contention.
Immortals Progressive shook up their roster for the final week of the 2022 LCS Spring Split, bringing AD carry Jason "Wildturtle" Tran back into the starting lineup after Noh “Arrow” Dong-hyeon started the majority of the split and with him, promoting IMT Academy support Joseph "Joey" Haslemann in place of starting support Mitchell "Destiny" Shaw.
Unfortunately for Immortals, the different roster did not change the nature of the squad's recent losses. Time and time again, IMT have gained early leads or, at the very least, stayed competitive throughout the early and mid game before throwing a win away with late game mistakes. The loss to CLG, which was more of the same, was Immortals' eighth loss in a row.
Following IMT's elimination, a lot of the post-season picture for the 2022 LCS Spring Playoffs has yet to be decided.
The only teams who have qualified thus far are Cloud9, Team Liquid, and defending LCS champion 100 Thieves — the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams in the standings, respectively — and the six other teams are all still in contention for the last three post-season spots. However, should TSM lose their next match against 100 Thieves, they will join Immortals in mathematical elimination from the LCS Spring Playoffs.
While TSM is now in sole possession of ninth place following IMT's loss, CLG is now at 6-10 and closer to catching up to the two way tie for sixth place between the 7-9 Dignitas QNTMPAY and Golden Guardians. After their win against FlyQuest today, Evil Geniuses have tied FLY for 4th place with a shared record of 8-8 with two matches left in the LCS Spring Split.
