Less than 72 hours after Epic Games, creator of the battle royale titan, Fornite, kicked off a campaign to provide humanitarian aid for the ongoing war in Ukraine through in-game purchases, the company announced that more than $50 million has been raised so far.
In a statement on the game's official social media accounts, Epic Games shared the news on Tuesday evening with more than 10 days left in the fundraising campaign.
Set to run through April 3, Epic Games is committing all net proceeds from Fortnite "so that we can get more aid to the people of Ukraine," said the company in their mission statement.
Prior to Tuesday's announcement, Ukrainian's Vice Prime Minister, Mykhailo Fedorov, thanked Epic Games in a tweet as $36 million was raised in under 48 hours.
The humanitarian relief organizations that all in-game purchases will go towards are Direct Relief, United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP) and The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
To expedite their aid, Epic Games announced that they are planning on sending the funds out to the relief organizations within days of being logged, opposed to waiting for the funds to be processed by their payment partners.
