KRU continues Cinderella run at VCT Champs, besting Fnatic in quarterfinals

The final non-EMEA team, LATAM's own KRU, continued their dark-horse run by defeating Fnatic in the quarterfinals of VCT Champions Berlin. They defeated FNC 2-1, winning the first map Haven in OT, losing Icebox, and then taking the final map on Split in a convincing 13-9 fashion in front of over 118,000 viewers on Twitch.

Fnatic is not the first team that KRU has upset at this tournament. They also eliminated NA favorite Sentinels in the final elimination match for Group B in the preliminary stage of the tournament. The victory over Sentinels was a clear warning shot to other teams, that KRU are very real contenders to win this tournament, as they appear to be peaking at just the right time.

While KRU has attended multiple majors this year, and are unquestionably the best Latin American VALORANT team in the world, coming into this tournament they were considered an unlikely contender to win. However, throughout that past week they have proven the doubters wrong, showing they have both the strategic wherewithal and the individual skills to defeat some of the best VALORANT teams in the world.

They will face Gambit tomorrow in the semifinals, with the winner of that match advancing to face either Team Liquid or Acend in the first-ever VCT Championship match.
